Fresh snow has fallen on the high peaks of Scotland for three consecutive days now. The is very unusual, having happened only a handful of times in the last thirty years.
The record for fresh snowfall in June is nine days (total), which occurred in 1977 and 2012.
Urgent update: due to forecast mountain weather conditions, Saturday's Munro Challenge event is postponed. The safety of all 360+ amazing participants, who range in experience, is a priority.
Team leaders & participants have been messaged. New dates will be announced.
Looking ahead to Saturday's hikes for Munro Challenge 2024, hopefully there's a more positive June forecast for the weekend, but a reminder that conditions up high can be very different to those at lower elevations β¬οΈβ¬οΈβ¬οΈ
Go prepared for the conditions on the mountains this week... the calendar says June but there's a taste of winter coming on the high tops π₯Άπ @Mountain_Scot@glenmorelodge
Our teams are gearing up for the 2024 @scottish_water Munro Challenge next Saturday, raising vital funds for WaterAid. You'll spot participants wearing our eye-catching new event t-shirts if you're out in the hills. We've got a bumper number of teams taking part ππ
