The Mpesa App had managed to decouple the service from the outdated STK-based form.

You only needed to verify it once, and you could remove the SIM card and still be able to transact. It was starting to look like Cash App.

The future was looking bright. We could get to a point of usernames, iMessage integration, etc. Imagine texting someone lunch money in the same chat? I dared to imagine that future.

I understand how the STK-based version was important for the system. It still is. Many users still have feature phones because you only need to charge it once in a while.

But then... There's this new set of users. I wanna do stuff efficiently. Why do we still have M-Pesa Express? Okay, I get why it is in the previous paragraph. I however feel like all these man-hours being spent on making the app worse could be used to integrate modern STK Push functionality into the apps. Like when I get a push, I can confirm with my Face ID. USSD push should be the fallback if the app is not reachable.

Now we have an App that won't work without some legacy Telco baggage. It is getting worse by the day.

Oh, and they can hardly keep up with their public developer API. What do all those employees do?
Maybe it is a culture thing? Or maybe only the Huawei guys are allowed in the core?

I don't know, man; I feel like a lawsuit is in order since Waiyaki Way is failing hundreds of thousands of customers every day. Those stuck in supermarket queues, having to sit longer in the cab since M-Pesa decided to take a mental health day, the bank to M-Pesa transfers that get stuck in some ESB queue for hours.

Anytime you are making a payment with M-Pesa, you just hope that it is not one of those mental health break days for the Telco's flagship product.

You guys are failing catastrophically, and if this were North Korea, some execs would be in hot soup.
