6 yo “when I have babies will they be autistic?”
Me “can’t say for sure. But I’m autistic. You’re autistic. So it’s likely”
6 yo “what will we do if they’re neurotypical?”
Me: “we’ll still love them”
6 yo: “yeah. Nanna’s neurotypical, we love her”
Diverse role models 💛
the john and hank green i knew from my youth built an entire platform on telling us we should critique people & systems for the good of *all*. the 15 year old me is super sad to realize this never meant disabled people to them. and never meant we should critique *them*.
I think that evangelical parents were told that their ONE GOAL was getting their kids to heaven and conservative politics, and they were never taught to delight in the humanity of their children. When children are suddenly adult humans, evangelical parents don't know what to do.
@CarissasNewLife I am afraid to clip my dogs nails....but now I need to know if she'd eat the clippings. I'm going to guess not, because she doesn't like crunchy things. 🤔🤔🤷🏻♀️
I haven't had a single respiratory illness since 2020. I used to get respiratory crap at least twice a year. I haven't needed Nyquil or Tylenol Cold and Sinus...which I used to buy in bulk. Masking is the best thing that has happened to my health in YEARS.
The thing that fascinates me about Christianity is how so many Christians can hear of horrible things done in the name of Christ and think, "Well, they just had the wrong brand of Christianity. My brand would never do that." Meanwhile, they all come from the same book.
Shannon Harris’s new memoir “The Woman They Wanted” brings her voice into the story of “I Kissed Dating Goodbye.”
It also brings in an entirely different gospel.

Adult children of evangelicals want deep relationships with their parents. But we want to be seen as humans. Not as spiritual accessories, accomplishments, or victories.
Let's talk about this.
I am a unique ATI/IBLP/Quiverfull kid with a 70s birthday and a single sibling. I was the communal eldest daughter who was farmed out to overwhelmed younger families (I'll save my thoughts on this for another day). +

Adult children have come to realize that they as humans were never considered the treasure. They were simply a "notch" for their parents Bibles, an accomplishment, a reason for bragging rights. +
@spacegirl1181 Sending all the hugs. I was the complaint child, and my brother's behavior is what drove my parents deep into evangelicalism. Now we have switched places, and I can feel the panic they used to have for my brother being focused on me.
