The transfer portal has completely changed the landscape of college sports as we know it.

I took an inside look at its evolution and the experiences for both athletes and coaches alike.

Week ten (and the regular season) for high school football are in the books, but before we move onto the playoffs, we have to recognize our latest @mvhccares Players of the Game!

Along with the round one rivalry rematch between Sheridan and Tri-Valley, we could be looking at another one in round two.

If Granville beats Alder, then Licking Valley awaits. Only previous playoff meeting came in 2007, with LV winning it, 42-21.

And here we GO!

The 2026 @OHSAASports football playoff brackets are here! Ten local area teams are in, two have byes, and a pair of first-round #MVL matchups. See who is playing who, when and where!

Should have clarified a little more about the specific matchups, but still great points from Sam here.

[Sam Blackburn @SamBlackburnTR]

In my 30 yrs here it hasn’t happened with 2 teams, but we’ve had single MVL rematches. Sheridan-Philo in 1986 (Sheridan’s first playoff win), John Glenn-Philo in regional final in 2017 (Philo 1st RF) That one marked Philo’s 1st regional) and Sheridan-Morgan in 2023.

[Sheridan XC @LadyGeneralsXC]

Lady Generals qualified for the Regional Meet with a 3rd place finish at the Southeast District. All Southeast District for Sheriden Glanemann (8th) & Adriana Pack (9th). Eva Jones placed 14th, Addie Dennis 26th, Kayeleigh Cochran 35th, Payton Dittoe 44th & Ellie Huffman 46th.

[Mr. Walters @MrWalters225]

Sheridan’s boys XC team qualified to the D2 Regional meet at Pick North. Hudson Wilson was 4th overall and was All-District. Logan Adams was 20th and was the 2nd fastest freshman in the race but the best race went to Michael Flowers who was our alternate that ended as our 5th man

After his program record-tying 106th win in week ten, I asked @philocoach if he ever imagined reaching the record held by the great Sam Hatfield.

As you would expect, an incredibly well thought out and classy response from Coach L.

@PhiloAD @WHIZscores

[WHIZ Sports @WHIZscores]

Hmm, where have we seen this before?

It wasn't an easy week ten battle, as @TVSCOTTIESFB needed every last score to take down John Glenn, earning a fourth straight #MVL big school title in the process.

@tvhsscotties @TVDAWGS

[WHIZ Sports @WHIZscores]

You just can't script it any better than this.

It turns out we had to wait until week ten for the game of the year, as @RMA_RedRageFB spoils New Lexington's bid at regular season perfection for the second year running!

@no_paculver @SheridanGeneral @LanceDupler

[WHIZ Sports @WHIZscores]

WHAT A FINISH!

2026 was truly @KoltonPete2's year, as he wills @newark_football past Lancaster for a third straight week ten rivalry win.

@NewarkWildcats @Newark_Schools

[Steven Wasserman @SWassermanTV]

A first MVL title in a decade. A record setting win for Coach L. A career game for a star running back.

It was truly an unforgettable week ten as @PhiloFootball1 ran all over Maysville.

@PhiloAD @philocoach @Slade_024 @WHIZscores

[Steven Wasserman @SWassermanTV]

PERFECTION! (Again)

For the second year running, @LValleyPanthers complete an unbeaten regular season, applying the finishing touches with dominant victory over Zanesville.

@LVHS @WHIZscores

[Steven Wasserman @SWassermanTV]

Per @JoeEitel, we could be looking at history in round one.

Barring any changes between now and Sunday, it will be (#11) Tri-Valley @ (#6) Sheridan (Division III) and (#8) West Muskingum is expected to host (#9) Philo (Division IV).

First time playoff matchups for both.

Philo beats Maysville tonight 27-13 to clinch a share of the MVL Big School Division championship and a spot in the playoffs. Running back Slade Sprankle gets our MVHC Player of the Game Award. He had 261 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win! @PhiloAD @PhiloFootball1
