Let’s talk about periods on the psych ward
🩸 no sanitary bins
🩸inadequate period provisions eg tiny sanitary pads, non applicator tampons
🩸those with no leave can’t buy suitable products
🩸1:1 patients being watched changing products
🩸limited access to pain killers

some ways to accommodate Autistic people:

- allow them to have a fidget item/stim
- don’t demand eye contact from them
- ask them before hugging/shaking hands
- offer a visual aid/written handout for tasks
- ask them what they need/what helps them
- allow headphones/earplugs

Autistic masking can sometimes look like:

- forcing eye contact
- rehearsing scripts in your head
- suppressing the urge to stim
- repeating phrases others have said
- copying accents/tones subconsciously

We should be able to recognise autism in non-distressed, happy autistic children. They should not have to wait until they are burnt out and broken before they can be diagnosed.

About to have a discussion with my dad about moving back to europe in january. the trans rights situation in the us is scaring me. I can't make it back before then, unfortunately.
