Just a small correction to the comment in this article that the station is now “the only local station for all of South Yorkshire”.
We rebranded as South Yorkshire Essentials at the start of August and already provide a local radio service across Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.
Our focus remains firmly on local news, information, events, community coverage and, of course, REYT GOOD TUNES! 📻❤️
It’s great to see continued investment in local radio across the region but we thought it was important to clarify that South Yorkshire already has more than one local radio service covering the area.
It should also be noted, there is not a Barnsley transmitter yet, so Barnsley coverage is mainly online only. We expect to commission the transmitter in Barnsley Q1 2027.
CHARGED: Five charged in connection with death of newborn baby girl in Sheffield
Five people have been charged following the death of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield.
On Sunday (30 August) we responded to reports of a concern for the safety of a newborn baby in the Wincobank area of Sheffield. A property on Holywell Heights was searched by officers and the baby was located.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, the baby girl was pronounced dead at the scene. A forensic post-mortem has since confirmed that she died as a result of stab wounds.
Detectives have been working tirelessly to pieces together the events which resulted in this tragic incident and yesterday evening (Tuesday 1 September) charged the below people with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the killing of an infant:
- Andrea Skopova, aged 20, formerly of Robey Street, Sheffield
- Peter Horvath, aged 19, of Holywell Heights, Sheffield
- Nina Horvathova, aged 37, of Holywell Heights, Sheffield
- Peter Horvath, aged 38, of Holywell Heights, Sheffield
A 15-year-old girl, who can't be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice
All five have been remanded into custody ahead of appearing at Sheffield Magistrates' Court later today.
Two women, aged 26 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward said: "This is a significant step in our investigation into the tragic circumstances that resulted in the death of this baby girl.
"I would like to thank our communities, who I know will have been deeply impacted by this traumatic incident, for supporting us as we work through this intricate investigation.
"We would ask the public to avoid speculating and posting information online about this case while the legal process takes it course. Protecting the integrity of the criminal justice process is crucial to us securing justice for this little girl."
Plans to transform the former Ski Village site in Sheffield into a major new leisure and outdoor adventure destination have been unveiled as a three-week public consultation gets underway.
The proposals are being brought forward by Skyline Enterprises, the New Zealand-based global leader in adventure tourism and visitor experiences.
A planning application for the masterplan is expected to be submitted towards the end of the year. Subject to approval, the development would be delivered in multiple phases.
The first phase of the development would include Skyline's signature gravity-fed downhill karting (Skyline Luge), a scenic chairlift, an indoor educational attraction, café and terrace overlooking Sheffield, a large free-to-use outdoor plaza and family playground, as well as a customer car park.
Future phases would introduce a zipline attraction and a surf wave experience. There are also long-term ambitions to reintroduce dry ski slopes at Parkwood Springs, recognising the site's historic skiing heritage.
As part of the masterplan, existing walking and mountain bike trails would be retained or carefully relocated where necessary, ensuring enhanced public access remains throughout the site.
A public consultation on the proposals runs until Sunday 20 September and provides an opportunity for residents, businesses and local stakeholders to review the proposals and share feedback.
Members of the public can also attend two drop-in events where they can meet members of the Skyline project team and discuss the proposals.
The events will take place on:
Wednesday 9 September (4-7.30pm): Heist Brew Co. in Neepsend
Thursday 10 September (3-7pm): Shirecliffe Community Centre
Geoff McDonald, Chief Executive Officer of Skyline Enterprises, said:
“Today is about starting a conversation. We’re excited to share our latest proposals with the city and want to hear from local people, businesses and community groups about our plans and understand what matters most to them.
“We see Sheffield as a perfect partner and believe the Parkwood Springs project has the potential to become one of the UK's most distinctive outdoor leisure destinations, helping to further enhance Sheffield's visitor offer, support the local economy and create new jobs.”
These latest proposals sit alongside wider investment by Sheffield City Council in the area, including a £19 million Government Levelling Up Fund programme that will deliver a new access road, junction improvements and wider infrastructure upgrades.
A separate consultation on the proposed new access road between Oakham Drive and Vale Road, as well as the planned Rutland Road junction upgrades, is being undertaken by Sheffield City Council.
Council officers and representatives from Breheny Civil Engineering will be in attendance at the 9th September event to answer questions from the public.
We want to hear from you

🚋 SUPERTRAM SERVICES MOSTLY BACK AFTER DELTA WORKS BUT BLUE ROUTE DISRUPTION CONTINUES
Most Supertram services have returned to their normal routes through Sheffield city centre following the completion of major renewal works at the Delta Junction near Fitzalan Square / Park Square.
But it is not a full network return. Trams are still not running between Gleadless Townend and Halfway because of an infrastructure problem near Birley Lane, where engineers have found what appears to be a historic well or mineshaft beneath the track.
Blue Route services are currently running between Malin Bridge and Herdings Park, with replacement bus BL1 operating between Gleadless Townend and Halfway.
Purple route journeys are being covered by Blue route trams, while Yellow and Tram-Train services are currently showing as good service.
Passengers should check the Travel South Yorkshire app or Supertram social channels before travelling.

🏆 SHEFFIELD’S JOE DEAN WINS THE BRITISH MASTERS! 🏆
What a moment. What a story. What an achievement for Sheffield’s own Joe Dean.
The 32-year-old golfer has claimed his first DP World Tour title after producing a sensational final round at The Belfry to win the British Masters.
Starting the final round seven shots behind, Joe delivered the round of his life a bogey-free, nine-under-par 63 to set the clubhouse target at 14 under.
Then came the nervous wait… before it was confirmed:
Joe Dean. British Masters champion. By three shots.
And the story behind the win makes it even more special.
Joe’s journey has taken him from delivering Morrisons shopping in South Yorkshire to lifting one of the biggest trophies in European golf with his wife Emily alongside him as his caddie.
That is hard work. That is belief. That is Sheffield grit.
From supermarket delivery rounds to DP World Tour champion — Joe Dean has written one of the great local sporting stories.
👏 Congratulations, Joe.

A proper community effort is growing across Barnsley.
Two new Good Food Pantries have opened in Gawber and Grimethorpe giving local people access to affordable everyday food, while helping to cut waste and bring neighbours together.
They’re run by volunteers, open to everyone, and shoppers can pick up essentials for £5.
The new openings mean there are now 12 Good Food Pantries across Barnsley, with the latest based at St Paul’s Parish Hall in Gawber and Grimethorpe Library at The Acorn Centre.
The council says it’s about more than food it’s about creating warm, welcoming places where people can connect, support each other and get practical help close to home.
