@jk_rowling Dear Jo, I remember when you first made your Harry Potter series available in audio book form on Pottermore. As this is September 1, I am beginning my annual trip through the audio series again, as Harry road the Hogwarts train back to school each year. Thank you β€β‘
@tolkienprof I'm listening to LOTR on audiobook. Just reached the part where the last ExLOTR left off. I'm having a crisis here: should I continue? I don't want to, and yet I do. Help!

@rustyrockets Who wants war, except for those who profit by it? Those who hate and fear people who don't look/act/speak/think like they do. Those who fear difference and change, who will force their opinions and beliefs on others rather live peaceably with them. #ThinkAboutIt
@tolkienprof re: the dwarven faces carved around the passage. Notice how many half-formed faces are carved behind the 5 or so main ones. It's as though there is a huge crowd of half-seen dwarves in back, perhaps to impress upon travelers the race of dwarves is huge and watching.
@JaneEspenson I did a quick 2-page outline. Now I'm going back and outlining each scene. When done, I'll go back again to add more nuance and more depth. Then I might be able to actually write the novel. (I realize this conversation was probably about screen plays. Sorry for butting in.)
FYI: There has been a huge surge in the number of deepfake videos β some of which are quite well done β on this platform in the past few days. These are probably among the best quality deepfakes Iβve seen at this scale; most viewers are unable to tell that the videos are fake.
@tolkienprof Re: ExLOTR, so 297. Boromir throws the stone and the Fellowship notice waves and bubbling. Always remember, CORRELATION IS NOT CAUSATION. (It took me a few years to realize that. Imagine my surprise when I found out there was a quote for it. π)
@tolkienprof re: ExLOTR #277. Gimli had his stout legs; Legolas had his singing bow. I have aalways read that as a contrast: The dwarves are heavy and grounded, the elves are light and airy.
This is how our government has been corrupted:
1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office.
2) Elected officials rewrite the rules in the donors' favor.
3) Donors make a huge profit.
4) Repeat.
For the sake of democracy, we must get Big Money out of politics.
