Speaking to Al Mayadeen on Sunday, Professor Mohammad Marandi said that before the 12-day war began, Axios and other outlets reported that US President Donald Trump opposed military action and wanted further negotiations, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was pushing for war. He noted that the United States launched its attack shortly afterward.

Professor Marandi said he believes Axios “was being used for deception,” adding that during the siege, the outlet was used to manipulate the market by falsely reporting that Iran and the United States were close to reaching an agreement, which, he said, drove oil prices lower.

He added that this had happened on multiple occasions, concluding, “Axios is utterly compromised, and I wouldn't trust it for anything, let alone what's going on now between Iran and the Trump regime.”

Speaking to Al Mayadeen on Sunday, Professor Mohammad Marandi said that the wars involving Russia, Ukraine, Iran, and Yemen are, in some ways, interconnected, as they are all confronting the Western Empire.

He said that the reason the Kiev regime “murdered a sailor on an Iranian ship” and attacked the vessel, causing damage, was because it was seeking to portray itself as part of a broader Western coalition.

Speaking to Al Mayadeen on Sunday, Professor Mohammad Marandi said that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to the West and countries aligned with it, alongside the closure of the Red Sea to Saudi shipping, reinforces pressure on US President Donald Trump and the United States.

He explained that the combined measures increase pressure on both the global economy and the US economy.

Professor Marandi said that if Iran had not closed the Strait of Hormuz, the impact of closing the Bab al-Mandab to Saudi shipping “would have been much less.”

Likewise, he said that if Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz without Bab al-Mandab being closed to Saudi shipping, the pressure on the United States, Trump, the Israeli regime, and “the empire” would have been reduced.
