Kingfisher class are artists! Today we turned our classroom into an Art studio to do printing. First, we tranferred the designs from our sketchbooks onto polysterene tiles. We then used rollers and ink to print on paper and then onto felt. They look fantastic!

Yesterday morning, we had a fantastic Sports Day with Year 4. Great perseverance shown by so many children! We also had a great time playing in the park afterwards 😊

Kingfisher class are artists! This week we have been working on our topic of making an appliqué inspired by plants. We appraised the work of William Morris & Lindsey Phillip Butterfield and then took our learning outside to sketch different elements of nature in our playground.

Today we continued our work on Hinduism by learning about the festival of Raksha Bandhan. This Hindu festival celebrates love for friends and family. Hindus show appreciation for their loved ones by making special bracelets. We made our own friendship bracelets to take home!

Year 3 had their steel pan lesson altogether today so Mrs. Bergin got the chance to listen to them playing. What a treat! Such joyful music on a beautiful morning ☀️🎶💃

Today we continued our work on Hinduism. We learnt about how Brahman has 3 different parts and is symbolised by the Aum sign. We designed our own symbols to present Brahman, making sure our symbol had three parts.

Today we had a mystery in Y3! Someone ‘borrowed’ our teddies during playtime. We made a list of suspects and thought about their motives. Luckily there was a clue left behind so we worked out the real suspect was Ms.Hockley! This has inspired us to write our own mystery stories.

Today we transported ourselves back to the Mayan age and made our very own xocolatl! We worked in groups, using cocoa powder, hot water, vanilla essence and even green chilli peppers! We whisked the mixture together and had a taste. It smelt delicious but tasted bitter 😯

Today we have been working in partners to consolidate our understanding of non-unit fractions of amounts. We drew bar models to help us solve each question and support our understanding.

Today we read the postcards sent to us from @HtYear3 and @SmYear3! We were so excited to read them and find out more about children from the other Year 3 classes in our Trischool. We can’t wait to reply 😊

This afternoon we have been colouring in our South American crosses as part of our learning on Hispanic week. We looked at examples and then made our own versions using the bright colours and drawings typically used. We are looking forward to sharing them in assembly tomorrow!

Year 3 have really enjoyed our new writing unit on postcards. We received a postcard from Mrs Bergin’s holiday. We looked at this example to help us work out the features of a postcard and put our learning into practice by writing postcards to @HtYear3 and @SmYear3!

Today we started our topic on Chocolate! We tried 4 different types of chocolate (with our eyes closed) and had to use our other 4 senses to work out what chocolate it was. We had lots of fun, although, as you can see, some of the chocolate was a little bitter for our tastes!

This week we have started our new class text, ‘Ottoline and the Yellow Cat’ by @chrisriddell50. We are really enjoying getting to know Ottoline and Mr. Munroe and have been asking questions about the what we have read so far. We can’t wait to read on!

I am very proud of how hard Year 3 have worked on our new history display! It celebrates all the fantastic work they have done on the Romans.🏺🏛 Well done Year 3!

Today in History, we put ourselves in the shoes of St Augustine. We wrote letters in role to persuade king Elthelbert to become a Christian king! What do you think of our reasons? Would you have been persuaded to stop being a pagan and start being a Christian?

Year 3 enjoyed going to St.Ann’s church today to learn more about our topic of Holy Communion. Rev. Jess showed us where this important sacrament takes place in the church as well as what happens and the language used. Year 3 had lots of great questions!
