We try so hard to be expert in what we usually do so well, devoted as we are to pleasing hundreds of millions of guests in our theatres each year.

Today, though, as Dune 3 tickets went on sale, the crushing volumes briefly slowed or glitched our online ticketing systems.

Indeed, AMC experienced extraordinarily high demand, particularly for premium format presentations and for some of our most desired locations.

Ticketing traffic across AMC’s website and mobile app reached levels approximately three times higher than what we experienced during the Spider-Man: Brand New Day ticket launch, which itself followed strong advance sales for The Odyssey ticket launch before that.

It’s not that our systems totally failed. We have been selling enormous numbers of tickets today, but when any of our customers experience less than our best, it is just not right.

It’s a high class problem to have such staggering demand, but even so it is intolerable and inexcusable. It just can not and should not happen, because as AMC is the clear market leader, you deserve better from us.

There was much discussion internally ahead of and preparing for the Dune 3 launch. We thought we were ready, but we weren’t.

I am told that about $2 million of IT programming resource will let us fully address the issue. Of course, that money has been approved already, and we’ve asked our IT team to move at a whirlwind speed to take whatever steps are needed so that our ticketing systems are — in all situations and in all quantities —again top shelf.

If some of you experienced delays or intermittent issues while attempting to purchase tickets today, we encourage you as potential AMC guests to retry your purchase, as inventory remains available at many locations and showtimes.

We appreciate our guests’ patience and enthusiasm, and we are very encouraged that so many moviegoers are excited to secure their seats for one of the most anticipated theatrical releases of the year.

There are some stories you will hear that will make you start crying, even if you don’t know the person. Talk more of someone you know personally. 💔

There’s a lady who lived in my former area. She is a very beautiful, light-skinned woman.

She has a 2-year-old son who is autistic. He can’t sit on his own, he can’t stand, he still wears diapers, and he needs a lot of care.

Sadly, her husband said he couldn’t be a father to such a child and even called the boy a bastard.

The woman said she got pregnant again just to please her husband, hoping things would get better. She gave birth to a baby girl, but the man said he didn’t want a girl child.

Recently, he sent her and the children away from the house and said he no longer wanted the marriage.

Now, she is stranded with her two children, while the man is busy following other women.

She reached out to me yesterday, and when I saw her on video call, I cried. I remembered how beautiful she looked when I knew her before, and seeing how stressed and tired she looks now really broke my heart.

I know some people will say stories like this are made up, so I asked her to make a video herself as proof.

I don’t normally do this, but please 🙏🏽 let’s support her in any way we can.

So this girl you are seeing here is just 11 years old. She is currently living with her aunt in Onitsha, but according to her, she was brought from Lagos where her parents live to stay with this woman.

According to reports, the girl was seen wandering around after she lost about ₦2,000, which she had made from selling fufu. She had searched everywhere for the money but could not find it. She was crying and refused to go home because, according to her, her auntie would beat her.

A kind woman who saw her joined her in searching for the money, but they couldn’t find it. Eventually, the woman gave her the ₦2,000 and also got her something to eat.

But that was when they discovered something more painful.

The girl said she does not go to school, hardly eats, and had not eaten that day. She also said she has been doing this work every day. She has been living with the woman for about five years, since she was six years old.

She said she wants to go back to her parents in Lagos, but she doesn’t know how to contact them.

According to her, her mother’s name is Ugo Igwemma.

This is an 11-year-old child. She deserves to be in school, to eat properly, and to be cared for.
