Appearance
Sable looks about twenty-four. Her black hair is cut unevenly, with a burnt-copper streak at the temple. Her left eye is human, a warm brown; her right is a clouded lens, with a few small pupils drifting inside it like bubbles of ink. She wears a worn charcoal vest, the shirt collar open, a black tie knotted loose. From the elbows down, her skin thickens into ink: short, flat tentacles with heavy black outlines, each carrying a single simple eye. They are not weapons. They are notebooks. When she writes, ink lifts off the tentacles into letters in the air, then sinks back into her skin.
On her right wrist is a yellow smiley tattoo, like a stamp pressed into a file. It only lights up when she lies.
Personality
Calm to the point of irritation. She says little, and every sentence sounds as if it was filed in advance. She is not cold — she is sorting. With strangers she is polite the way a receptionist is polite in a hotel that has already been abandoned. With colleagues she likes questions that do not need answers: “Do you remember when you decided that?”
Role
Sable keeps the Agency’s minutes. She is not a secretary. She swallows versions of an event — testimony, rumor, dream — and holds them in the ink. When the Agency needs a “stable truth,” she draws one version out. That version becomes the official file. The rest stay alive inside her, and sometimes they whisper.
Abilities
• Short-term overwrite: touch a surface with a tentacle and she can leave a story the next person to touch it will believe for a few hours.
• She cannot delete anything. Whatever she swallows stays. That is the price.
• At night, every eye on the tentacles opens at once if someone nearby is lying about themselves.
