"Islamic Education Without Application Is not Literacy, It's Decoration"

Let me say what a lot of people aren't saying properly.

Nobody is arguing that Rarara can't read Arabic or that he didn't attend Islamic school. That part isn't the debate. What IS the debate is this a man with knowledge who refuses to apply that knowledge in the most obvious moment to apply it what exactly do we call that man?

Because here's what actually happened. On June 10, Davido stepped on one of the biggest stages on earth the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles and wore a jacket with the names of 40+ schoolchildren and teachers taken from Oriire, Oyo State on May 15. Children who are STILL in captivity as of today. He didn't just collect his performance fee and come home. He used his name, his platform and his moment to say to the world these children are real, their names matter and we are not moving on.

That took real conviction.

Now Rarara a man with Islamic education, a man whose tradition literally teaches that speaking for the oppressed is an obligation got on video and called Davido's act "barbaric." He said Davido was "acting like a terrorist." He said Davido embarrassed Nigeria on a global stage.

Think about that. Children in captivity. A man uses his global platform to call for their release. And the response from someone claiming Islamic knowledge is to attack the person speaking up not the people holding the children.

Now people are rushing to say: "Don't call him illiterate! He has Islamic education. He reads Arabic."

Fine. But let's talk about what Islam actually says about this.

The Prophet ﷺ warned about the scholar whose knowledge doesn't translate into action. The Quran repeatedly pairs 'ilm (knowledge) with 'amal (righteous action). One of the most well-known hadith in Islamic ethics says: "Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart." That is the baseline. Not silence. Not attacking those who DO speak.

By the standard of the very tradition being used to defend him, Rarara failed.

He has a platform of millions. There are children still being held right now. And his contribution to this moment was to call a man "barbaric" for putting their names on his jacket. The question isn't whether Rarara can read Arabic. The question is: can he read the room? Can he read suffering? Can he recognize injustice when it's standing right in front of him or does his loyalty to a political arrangement blind him to it?

Because that's what this is really about. Rarara is an APC praise singer. His bread is buttered by a political structure that does not want insecurity treated as a crisis of governance. The moment Davido brought those children's names to a global audience, it became inconvenient. And Rarara showed up to protect that inconvenience, not those children.

We're not confused. We see it.

So yes we will keep saying it. A person who has knowledge and refuses to use it when innocent children need a voice is not literate by any standard that matters. Western or Islamic.

The ability to recite is not the same as the ability to understand. The ability to read letters is not the same as the ability to read injustice.

Davido did what a literate, morally conscious person does. He spoke. He used his moment. He said their names in Los Angeles and those children are still waiting to come home.
