How does a Solar Street Light actually work?
In this video, Zia Ul Rehman, Technical Expert at AR Brothers, walks through the system piece by piece — including the lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery that stores the electricity the light needs after sunset.
He also explains the output these solar street lights can deliver, and why the right battery matters as much as the panel on top.
Clean lighting doesn’t have to depend on the grid. It depends on a system that can collect, store, and use power when it’s needed.

"After Retirement, a Government Employee Fights Ever-Growing Inflation with Solar"
Ayaz Ahmed Khan is 62, a father of four, living in Islamabad’s I-8 sector. Two years after he retired from CDA, his pension could not carry a household of six. Electricity bills ran to PKR 60,000–70,000 a month. In winter, gas climbed toward PKR 80,000. That was the turning point.
He invested his retirement savings in a 12 kVA solar system and a green meter. The bill did not just fall. It went negative. Last month it was –PKR 137,000. Extra units go to the national grid and come back as credit. For someone living on a pension, that is not a line on a statement. It is room to plan again.
Gas heaters were replaced with inverter ACs, powered by the roof. The home now runs on clean energy: cooling, fans, kitchen appliances, and the water pump. With the pressure eased, he planted a small garden at the front of the house and grows vegetables and fruit.
Next, he wants to move his petrol vehicles to electric and charge them at home. This is the change that lasts. People take up solar because inflation and bills leave them no choice — then they become an example in their community.

SSGC meter replacement drive fails to cut UfG losses
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) replaced gas meters for 80% of its customers in Sindh and Balochistan (2.563 million out of 3.267 million) for Rs 19.5 billion between FY 2013-14 and FY 2021-22. Despite this, Unaccounted For Gas (UfG) losses rose from 13.82% to 17.84%.
The Auditor General of Pakistan told the Public Accounts Committee that the heavy spending did not reduce UFG. SSGC MD Muhammad Amin Rajput said volume losses fell from 72 BCF (FY 2018-19) to 31.7 BCF (2023) and that UFG, excluding Balochistan, is now in single digits and below the OGRA benchmark of 7.4%. The audit also flagged fake-meter cases worth Rs 123.6 million.

When a Solar Panel Creates More Than Clean Energy
Making a religious leader a proactive advocate for clean energy is a big win.
The journey may have started with a practical need: rising electricity costs and the desire to provide a more comfortable learning environment for students at a madrassa.
Installing solar offered a way to reduce electricity bills while extending cooling comfort to students during Pakistan’s increasingly hot summers.
But something bigger happened in the process.
The religious leader became not just a consumer of clean energy, but an advocate for it—using his position and influence to encourage others to consider clean, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions.
This is exactly the kind of change we want to see: when people adopt clean energy because it makes economic and practical sense, and then become ambassadors for the energy transition within their communities.
His story also gives greater credibility to the message being shared through Sabz Bijli, our consumer-focused one-stop information platform at https://t.co/HwtwK4Z4BR
Clean energy is not only about technology. It is about people, choices and communities.
And when trusted community voices start sharing that message, the energy transition becomes a movement.

Interesting read in Dawn: Pakistan’s battery demand is set to jump from 5–6 GWh to 40–51 GWh by 2031 ($6.5–9 bn market), yet over 80% is still imported.
Without local manufacturing, the annual import bill could exceed $2–3.15 bn. The Battery Manufacturing Policy 2026–31 is a step forward — but execution is key.

The SabzBijli team attended the national conference
“Driving the EV Transition: Synergising Policy, Grid, and Green Financing”
at NUST, organised by USPCAS-E in collaboration with Indus Consortium. We learned a great deal from experts including Rabia Babar (Renewables First), Mehrosh Fatima (National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority), Dr. Amir (University of Lahore), Sadullah Ijaz (Atlas Honda), Shuja ul Haq Siddique (Pakistan Associate of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers), Shahid Jilani (Indus Consortium), Shaheen Akhtar (State Bank Pakistan), and Dr. Huzaifa Rauf (Lahore University of Management Sciences).
Key takeaways:•
Pakistan aims for 46% EV market share by 2035 with a 22% rise in electrification
• Strong need for policy stability, local EV & battery manufacturing, after-sales support and testing facilities
• EV industry must be treated separately from traditional auto sector due to different regulations and technologies
• Atlas Honda targeting 50% localisation this year; future models to be manufactured locally
• Challenges remain: higher FBR duties on local parts vs imports, high security costs compared to Indonesia & South Africa
• Clear NEECA process for charging stations (online registration, NOCs, 15-day timeline, concessional tariffs)
• SBP green financing and higher loan limits needed to accelerate adoption.
Grateful for the rich discussions on policy, grid readiness, green financing and local industry development. The road to clean mobility in Pakistan is taking shape — and we’re excited to be part of it.
