Today, the Youth Model Parliament took its debates into the National Assembly Chamber, giving young participants a real feel of parliamentary business as they occupied the seats where elected Members of Parliament deliberate, debate and make laws.

With the mace in place and parliamentary procedures in action, young parliamentarians engaged in robust debate on youth rights and issues affecting young people, putting into practice the knowledge and skills gained during the programme.

Guiding the young parliamentarians along the way were Members of Parliament from the Youth Caucus, who shared their experience and provided mentorship as the participants navigated the realities of parliamentary debate and representation.

A powerful opportunity for young people to find their voice, understand Parliament and participate in shaping the future.

Preparations are complete ahead of the Youth Model Parliament 2026, set to take place at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden today.

The Youth Model Parliament provides a unique platform for young people from different political parties to converge at Parliament and experience, first-hand, what it is like to walk in the shoes of a Member of Parliament.

Through debate, dialogue and simulated parliamentary proceedings, the programme equips young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to participate meaningfully in political discourse, democratic processes and decision-making.

Graduation in pictures🎓🌟

Congratulations to the first cohort of Amnesty International Zimbabwe's Activists Circles who graduated last week after a four-day intensive human rights training! 🎉🌟

This first cohort – one of three – brought together activists from Mashonaland West, #Mashonaland Central, #Midlands, and #Harare.

Participants' interests include advocating for #climatejustice, sexual and reproductive health rights, students' rights, social security, and defending civic freedoms. After the training, graduates are expected to initiate and coordinate a diverse range of community-driven initiatives championing human rights, aiming to create lasting positive change within their communities.
