How evangelical it would be if we could say with all truth: we too are poor, because only in this way will we truly be able to recognize them, to make them part of our lives and an instrument of our salvation. https://t.co/cvtlcuWNgb
Jesus curses only a fig tree. In Genesis 3, fig leaves are a sign of our ancestors’ shame, of a false perception that all differences—uncreated & created, heaven & earth, male & female—were now divisions, instead of inherent unities. Jesus curses our shame & our binary vision.
Some old men came to see Abba Poemen and said to him, “When we see brothers who are dozing at the synaxis, shall we rouse them so that they will be watchful?” He said to them, “For my part, when I see a brother who is dozing, I put his head on my knees and let him rest.”
