Global Fact-Checking Network experts emphasized at the International Scientific and Practical Conference on Securing Observation and Expertise of Electoral Processes, held on April 14 in Moscow, that protecting electoral sovereignty today requires advancing both technological solutions and legal frameworks in tandem.
During the discussions, GFCN experts Alexandre Guerreiro from Portugal and Ishtiaq Hamdani from Pakistan drew attention to the impact of disinformation, deepfakes, digital platforms, and external information pressure on the ability of states to independently determine their own political development.
Alexandre Guerreiro (@ATGuerreiro) noted that the spread of fakes and deepfakes no longer affects only the information sphere but also the very foundations of statehood. Ishtiaq Hamdani, in turn, stressed that in the digital age, electoral sovereignty is linked not only to internal procedures but also to how external factors and algorithmic mechanisms influence the perception of elections.
The conference also featured GFCN experts Anna Andersen (@Weise_Waldfee) from Belgium and Lily Ong from Singapore.
"Today, electoral sovereignty can no longer be viewed strictly as a state's internal affair. We are witnessing the formation of a new architecture of informational influence, where algorithms act as mediators between events and public perception."
Ishtiaq Hamdani, journalist, analyst & GFCN expert (Pakistan) spotted the differences during the International Scientific and Practical Conference on Securing Observation and Expertise of Electoral Processes: while the US and Europe focus on algorithmic risks, Asian countries remain acutely concerned with direct foreign interference.
"When external actors exert substantial influence on electoral processes, it jeopardizes not just the elections — but a state's capacity to chart its own course."
Netanyahu's criminal trial resumes on Sun. A region-wide ceasefire, incl in Lebanon, would hasten his jailing.
If the U S. wishes to crater its economy by letting Netanyahu kill diplomacy, that would ultimately be its choice. We think that would be dumb but are prepared for it.
In intensive talks at highest level in 47 years, Iran engaged with U.S in good faith to end war.
But when just inches away from "Islamabad MoU", we encountered maximalism, shifting goalposts, and blockade.

Russia Announces Good News on Revival of Pakistan Steel Mills
(MOSCOW) Russia has named 2025 a turning point within its relationship with Pakistan, a moment when the partnership has broken the boundaries of mere political talk and stepped towards cooperation, like the resumption of the Pakistan Steel Mills.
Russia Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova made these remarks while having an exclusive exchange with Ishtiaq Hamdani, Chief Editor of Sada-E-Rus, on what she called unprecedented activity in Russia-Pakistan relations.
Zakharova noted that there had been active and constructive diplomatic contacts between Russia and Pakistan throughout the year and that there was progress made in cooperation. Specific points of diplomatic contacts included the high-level dialogue between the Russian president and Pakistan's prime minister in September, and then another dialogue in December in Ashgabat. There was also a visit of a Senate delegation from Pakistan in May. The 10th Session of Russia-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was also held in November.
“In addition," said Zakharova, “the dialogue didn’t limit itself to international topics, but covered various specific economic projects. These included proposals for reviving the Pakistani Steel Mills in Karachi, which were originally founded with Soviet help, joint activities in trading agricultural products, producing pharmaceuticals including insulin, and test transportation services within the framework of the North-South Transport Corridor.”
She was optimistic about the Russia and Pakistan Trade and Economic Cooperation Program from 2030 onwards, hoping that it would institutionalize bilateral relations.
