The premier league starts tomorrow. As a Muslim and a football fan, I’ve reminded myself of a few things:

- It’s not worth missing congregational prayers in the masjid because of a football game. It’s okay to miss part of a game or all of it.

- If I can find the time to watch a football game or more every week, and banter about football, it means I can’t be too busy to study the Qur’an and learn more about my religion regularly.

- Banter with caution. It’s unfair insulting a fellow fan in the name of bantering. Players, officials, managers, etc are human beings too with emotions. They see our social media posts. Be nice in your criticism even when they underperform or misbehave.

After all, except you work in football, football is merely entertainment for most of us. It should not be priority over other important aspects of our lives.
