Today, a chapter closes.
As Scandal! reaches its final episode, I find myself reflecting not only on the incredible journey of the show, but on the woman who changed my life forever: Thembeka.
Thembeka was never simple. She was fierce, brilliant, vulnerable, ambitious, flawed, loving, ruthless and deeply human. She challenged me as an actress in ways I could never have imagined and gifted me some of the most meaningful moments of my career. Through her, I learned that audiences connect most deeply with characters who refuse to fit neatly into boxes.
What an extraordinary privilege it has been to be part of a show that became woven into the fabric of South African storytelling. For more than twenty years, Scandal! brought us stories of love, betrayal, redemption, family, power, and resilience. It gave countless actors, writers, directors, crew members and creatives a platform to dream bigger and tell stories that reflected who we are
To every cast member, every crew member, every writer, producer, director, makeup artist, wardrobe assistant, camera operator and every person who worked tirelessly behind the scenes: thank you. The magic that audiences saw on screen was built by your talent, commitment, care and love.
And to the viewers- thank you for opening your homes and hearts to us. Thank you for loving Thembeka, arguing with her, forgiving her, celebrating her victories, and holding her accountable for her mistakes. Thank you for allowing her to live far beyond the pages of a script.
Long after the lights go down on Scandal!, Thembeka will remain a part of me. She taught me courage. She taught me complexity. She taught me that powerful women do not have to be perfect to be unforgettable.
Goodbye, Scandal!.
Goodbye, Thembeka.
