The same Winnipeg Library that you increased City funding of by $165,000 in 2023, leading to a loss of 11 full time equivalents, compared to $8.3 million for the cops?!
The Executive Policy Committee is set to vote on it THIS TUESDAY. It's item #18 on the agenda linked below.
If you want to tell EPC how much this sucks, there's still time to sign up. Get in touch with us if you're interested!

The free transit piece is especially galling. It was only a few years ago that council ended the Downtown Spirit, a free bus line that provided essential mobility service to many oppressed peoples.
Motions to study reducing fares have been voted down.
But for cops? Anything.
This is coming from the same council that claimed it didn't have the money to boost funding of libraries, transit, recreation and public washrooms for WINNIPEGGERS.
But there's no shortage of money for out-of-town cops, border guards, correctional officers and ICE agents. SHAME.
As if the World Police and Fire Games couldn't get any worse, the City is now planning to give the organizers:
- Another $500k in public funds (bringing the total to almost $1M)
- And FREE TRANSIT to all participants, volunteers, organizers and family members during the "games"
SHAME on the Winnipeg Police: "I feel like they took advantage of my grief, how overwhelmed I was, my vulnerability. I feel like they betrayed the trust of the family...They didn't take into account any of what I had to say, my wishes." - Lucy Beardy

The Winnipeg Police, which has an annual budget of $327 million a year, is now weaponizing its Substack to lash out at criticism of the SRO program by Fadi Ennab and volunteer group Police Free Schools Winnipeg.
This is predictably despicable but still a significant escalation.
A 5 year old child getting mauled by a WPS dog at school - resulting in injuries and psychological trauma - doesn't constitute a "serious injury" to the IIU meaning it won't be investigated as a "serious incident."
The IIU exists to protect police power.

The police board exists to protect the WPS from criticism. It's now unilaterally decided the police aren't responsible for the landfill search, despite a $324 million budget and a categorical refusal to defund police to refund community response to harm.

This is so sad for folks in my neighbourhood, and a glaring example of why we need to start reinvesting in our public sector workers.
When governments cut back on them, we lose the services we count on.

A handful of people are defending the store/cops based on theft being morally unacceptable, or something 🤡
Loblaw, the giant company that owns Shopper's, reported $850 million in profit in the first two quarters of 2022 alone. The Weston family is one of the richest in Canada.
@AngelaSterritt Y t fragility at its finest moment. Don’t change it cuz it’s the truth and that’s okay. Stop bending to y t folks feelings. We’ve been called far worse.
