yesterday, i mentioned that two pieces of advice changed my entire 2024. i will talk about them a bit.
1. “a shy person gets nothing” : this one resonates so much with me cos as an introvert, i naturally would miss out on a lot of opportunities because i was too shy to speak up or to ask or to talk to someone. moving forward, i decided to speak up more, ask the questions i wanted to, introduce myself to the people i wanted to talk to, start those conversations i would normally not have. this particular advice is directly tied to the second piece which is;
2. “whats the worst that could happen”: in almost all cases, the worst thing that could happen to you in pursuit of your goals is either failure or rejection. and so what, they said no, they rejected your proposal, they said the idea wasn’t good enough, so what?? i get up, hold on to the lessons learnt we keep moving…
this has literally being my mindset since the beginning of this month and i hope to keep it up going into the new year.
i also hope this would help someone else set outside their comfort zone as well.
If you know you are planning on moving to Abuja and you have a car and you are planning to get a house in one of the settlements in Abuja, this post is for you.
Before you pay for that house, kindly do your research about the area first, don't just pay because an agent showed you a nice house.
There are places where you can't park your car with your car battery overnight,it will be st0len from your car before you wake up.
There are places where car owners don't leave their car batteries in their cars, they always take it inside.
These places are places where these pantaker guys roam frequently, they are the ones that mostly carry out such acts.
So do your investigations before paying for that house.
You are welcome.

Mass weddings are one of the most harmful well intentioned policies ever introduced in Arewa.
Written by Nawas Masood
What makes it even more troubling is that many of the beneficiaries are already struggling to provide for themselves, let alone raise a family. Governments proudly sponsor the marriages of thousands of couples, yet millions of children remain out of school, poverty continues to deepen, and countless families go to bed hungry every night.
The question is simple: should public resources be focused on creating more households, or on improving the lives of those already suffering?
Instead of investing heavily in education, job creation, healthcare, and poverty reduction, we celebrate programmes that may place even greater economic pressure on people who are already struggling. Marriage alone does not solve poverty. It does not create jobs. It does not put food on the table. It does not educate children.
When people without stable incomes start families they cannot adequately support, society often pays the price in the long run through increased poverty, school dropouts, street begging, and social instability.
A government’s priority should be helping people build the capacity to sustain a family before encouraging them to start one. Without that foundation, we may simply be expanding the very problems we claim to be solving.

We just had a lengthy discussion with a respected elder brother from Northern Nigeria who lives in the diaspora about the surge in insecurity across the region.
He raised a very important point, asking that beyond lamentation, what can we do, within the law, to help curb the situation?
He observed that whenever such incidents occur, we express our frustrations for a few days and then move on. In contrast, he cited the recent Ibadan incident and highlighted how their influencers and the community leaders responded with concrete actions, which ultimately produced the desired results.
He suggested a number of ideas, including peaceful protests, policy briefs, and other forms of civic engagement.
I promised him that I would bring the issue to the public so that we can gather contributions and ideas on how to move forward.
So, what do you think we, as a people, both at home and in the diaspora, can do to contribute to addressing the problem of insecurity in Arewa?
