@AmbokoJH Ideally the ‘benchmark’ valuation approach would be an internal administrative initiative to check on undervaluation. Most goods bought under consolidation vary in prices depending on the season. We should value goods as per the law.

Small traders take note!

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announces an increase in the customs benchmark value from Kes 2.5 Million to Kes 3.2 Million per consolidated 40-foot container effective Aug 20th, 2026.

"Where the actual value of the goods exceeds the benchmark, importers are required to make accurate declarations & the goods will be subjected to the applicable customs valuation & tariff treatment".

The customs benchmark refers to the minimum reference value assigned to containerised consolidated cargo to calculate import taxes.

UGANDA 🇺🇬 | Building a stronger and more resilient Karamoja

Today in Kampala, IGAD and the Government of Uganda convened a National Consultative Workshop to strengthen the proposed Joint Karamoja Project.

Opening the consultations, Ms @BigirwaJoselyn, IGAD Head of Mission to Uganda, and Mr Ssenduli John Baptist, Principal Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Karamoja Affairs, underscored the importance of strong coordination, national ownership and practical interventions that respond to the priorities of the people of Karamoja.

The meeting brought together government institutions, development partners, the private sector and technical experts to review proposed interventions around peace and security, livestock development, resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

The recommendations will inform the finalisation of a stronger, nationally owned project proposal that complements existing initiatives and supports the long-term transformation of Karamoja.
