🚨Granit Xhaka on his altercation with Gabriel during Sunderland 2-0 defeat to Arsenal:
🎙️ Reporter: “Granit, what happened between you and Gabriel?”
🗣️ Granit Xhaka: “I went in for the tackle and I clearly got the ball. It was a 50/50 challenge, but every 50/50 seemed to go their way today. Then the referee blew for a foul, and honestly, I was angry because I knew I had won the ball.
I went towards the referee to ask him about the decision, and then Gabriel walked straight up to my face and said, ‘You’re barking like a dog. You’re lucky you’re not getting a red card for that challenge, so keep quiet.’
I told him to shut up. I said, ‘You’re talking about defending? You’re one of the worst defenders on this pitch today.’
I was frustrated because it felt like every decision was going against us. I told him, ‘Your team is being favoured here, so enjoy it while it lasts.’
It was a heated moment, but that’s football. When you’re losing and decisions keep going against you, emotions can boil over.”
🚨Ian Wright on Sunderland signing Wesley Fofana for €40m ahead of Arsenal:
🗣️ Ian Wright: “I think this is one of those transfers Arsenal fans will look back at and ask, ‘How did we let that happen?’
“€40m is serious money, but in this market, Sunderland could have got themselves a bargain. Arsenal wanted Fofana, Crystal Palace tried to hijack the deal, but Sunderland got it done.
“I watched Tzolis against Aston Villa last night and he got harassed. He couldn’t find his feet. That’s the Premier League. You need players who can handle that pressure and still make something happen.
“Imagine having Fofana on the bench and bringing him on in a tight game. He can cut inside with either foot, beat players and find Havertz or Ødegaard. That’s a real threat. For me, he gives Arsenal something similar to what Cherki gives Manchester City unpredictability.
“And I think Arteta will be losing his mind over this one. He said after the Champions League final that his aim was to strengthen the attack, yet Arsenal have strengthened the defence again and still haven’t added the attacking threat they need. Now they’ve allowed Fofana to slip through their fingers.
“You also have to ask: where’s the Champions League pull? If Arsenal want these players, they have to make them choose Arsenal.
“Sunderland have made their move. If Fofana has a big season, people won’t ask why Sunderland paid €40m. They’ll ask why Arsenal didn’t.”
☹️ "I think most Spurs fans would rather he stays."
🤕 "They've dragged me down."
