1/2 Different faith traditions recognise fasting as a spiritual discipline that can help us to connect with the divine. Such periods of fasting are followed by celebration and periods of spiritual renewal. This year #Nowruz, the #springequinox and #Eid al-Fitr all fall within the same few days. This is a time of new beginnings, a time when what has been sown during the time of fasting begins to grow and be nurtured, both spiritually and physically in the world around us. It is a time of celebration.
However, devastating world events may mute celebrations for many people, dampening our joy and marring this special time. On top of this, some women will be experiencing domestic abuse, this can create added pressure of having to host family or added stress of having to walk on eggshells to not provoke the abuser and ruin the day. For those who have escaped, these days can trigger memories of emotional, physical and spiritual abuse.
Here’s 7 tips to help you support survivors during religious festival times.
