Simply put, CPDs save lives
That’s why AWDT is right behind 'Control the roll' - a sector wide initiative reinforcing the value of crush protection devices (CPDs) on quads.

"The biggest message I took home was that at 2pm you would make a decision on your quad that you would not make at 8am". - Chris Biddles, Farmer.

It is a shame that we still roll our eyes when it comes to health and safety on farms in NZ.
It should be about looking after yourself so you can make good decisions to go home alive at the end of every single day. How do you gauge when you need to take a break?
@TonyAGWatson
Fatigue is a factor... it makes us incapable of making the best decisions. What are you doing to ensure that your mental health and wellbeing is a priority?
Thanks to Chris for sharing his story to help others.

They’re waiting for you.
The people you love spend a lifetime waiting for you when you don’t come home from work.
Stop, think and always make the best decision in a moment for it will save your life.

Different story in NZ. Since 2011 there have been 52 fatalities on farm linked to quad bikes.
Average age 52.7yrs old.
Of the 52 that died, 6 were under the age of 20, or 9 under the age of 30.
The older farmers "done this a thousand times" are the problem here.
Too often we see poor Farm Safety practice & I’m happy to point it out in order to improve safety culture. However it’s also important to celebrate success like the many people who are normalising the wearing of helmets. Who else wants to join this group #comehomesafe#lensleg
"I used to like my independence, now I'm totally reliant on my wife and the kids.. simple things out on the farm I need help with, like moving the cattle..."
Thanks for sharing @PeterGohery1 hopefully other farmers take a moment to focus on the task esp when using farm machinery
ABP's first podcast focuses on the prevention of farm accidents in an emotional interview with two survivors and the lead paramedic for the @AirAmbulanceNI whose task it is to respond to such traumatic scenes. Check out the full podcast https://t.co/uZPEhzZV8q #Farmsafetyweek
William Sayers was injured in a farm accident when he was just 12 years old. As a result of the accident he lost his arm. William recalls the incident in the hope that his experience will spare someone else from the same fate. ,https://t.co/xNFurFPwwM #FarmSafetyWeek,
@safefarmsnow Thanks for sharing these stories. Hopefully other farmers are watching and learning from others but are just too shy to comment or 'like'
