Deeply appreciative of this moment with @muriel_mafico True leadership is not just about strategic guidance, but also about fostering a supportive, empowering environment where team members feel valued. Thank you for your unwavering encouragement and for constantly inspiring us.
Thank you @muriel_mafico for your inspirational leadership that enables us expand frontiers to deliver for women and girls in Sokoto. We are changing the FP narrative and moving the needle on RMNCAH in Nigeria.
Youth-led community outreach is breaking barriers, expanding access to essential reproductive health services. In Angwan Makafi, #Sokoto 🇳🇬, a community of 2000 blind persons and their families, this outreach is a testimony of the transformative role of community leadership, youth innovation & bold ideas powered by #partnership. @UN_Nigeria delivering as as One!
Thank you @EUinNigeria
Constructive meeting with @AfDB_Group Director General, Nigeria Country Department and interim Vice President @AbdulBKamara3. The meeting which follows recent MOU signed by @AfDB_Group and @UNFPA provided an opportunity to explore concrete areas for collaboration in #Nigeria.

Africa's most strategic asset is its people.
This week, I joined @AfDB_Group governors for a dialogue on how Africa can mobilize & deploy financing for sustainable development.
My message: Africa’s development financing must place people at its centre, especially women & youth.
Alongside young leaders and innovators, I inaugurated a youth talent lab in #Congo that will serve as a dynamic space for learning & collaboration.
Through this initiative, @UNFPA reaffirms its commitment to strengthening young people's leadership & investing in their potential.
Wonderful to experience a traditional tea ceremony at the start of my mission to #Japan.
A grounding ritual that helps us appreciate the beauty in our world, and a reminder that even in uncertain times, peace can still be found in a single shared moment.
Nigerian youth are not waiting.. they are shaping the future. Today, I had the privilege of attending the Premier Academy #ModelUN General Assembly on behalf of the Resident Coordinator ai @ElsieAttafuah. The theme, “Digital Transformation of the Education Sector as a driver of sustainable development” is not only timely, it is transformational. Through the model UN, the United Nations Information Center is empowering young people to understand #diplomacy, embrace #multilateralism, and learn the art of dialogue, tolerance, and consensus-building. Critical skills in today’s world.
A resounding voice at the Premiere of #IbukunAndThePeople was that of @muriel_mafico of @UNFPANigeria who said that “Through Ibukun & the People, storytelling has become a powerful advocacy tool for advancing women’s political participation and inclusive governance in Nigeria”
Throughout my years at @UNFPA, I have met many midwives: all courageous, indispensable & inspiring.
Around the world, they save the lives of mothers & newborns.
Yet, the world needs 1 million more of them.
On this #DayOfTheMidwife, join me in supporting their life-saving work.
Happy Mothers Day!
7 layers. 7 physical barriers between the world and a miracle. This isn’t just a medical procedure; it’s a testament to the literal depth of a mother’s strength.
A mother's body is a masterpiece of resilience!
This International Day of the Midwife, we celebrate midwives as the backbone of health systems and call for urgent investment in their education, leadership, and protection.
#IDM2026
I am grateful for the support of the Sokoto State Government since I assumed the responsibility of providing leadership to UNFPA programming in the state. Sokoto has a population of about 7 million. Despite challenging indicators, we are making steady progress.
"Today we mark International Day of the Midwife.
'One Million More Midwives' is a call to act, especially in Somalia, where the need is urgent.
Invest in midwives. Save lives.
No woman should die while giving life."
Francis Anyansi, UNFPA Somalia Deputy Rep/OIC #IDM2026

#IDM2026#OneMIllionMoreMidwives
#IDM2026 . A trained midwife can spell the difference between life and death for a woman in labour. This year's theme #OneMillionMore is a call to action. With support of @EUinNigeria , @UNFPANigeria is making further investments in midwifery models of care.
Community Midwifery Scholarship and Bonding Scheme launched in #Sokoto 🇳🇬 Yet another milestone under the #EU funded Reproductive and Adolescent Health joint project.
The leadership of Governor of Sokoto State, backed by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Grand Khadi and community members sent a clear message of the importance of investing in #midwives.
Together, with partners, 1,500 nurses and midwives have been recruited for underserved rural communities as part of efforts to strengthen the state's health workforce and improve healthcare.

An honour to speak at the opening of the 59th session of the Commission on Population and Development.
Population dynamics can be a powerful engine for inclusive growth, resilience and stability.
When we invest in people, we do not just shape the future — we secure it.
