Recently gave an interview for a react native role
I was asked to create a basic auth system with
signup screen
login screen
a dashboard screen protected using auth

and a backend with a login endpoint , a signup endpoint and jwt and basic validation

took me 3 hrs to finish

This project served as a technical exploration of mobile UI architecture, time-based layout logic, and edge-case handling, rather than a production productivity app.

A friend of mine who was stuck in a regular IT job did something similar.
He had good pay, stable, but was feeling dead inside.

He always loved traveling. Cameras, stories, random city walks - that was his thing.
He finally took a risky call, quit the job, and decided to actually try.

For a year:
– Traveled cheap
– Posted consistently
– Learned editing, storytelling, distribution
– Took a lot of Ls quietly

Today 1.5yrs later, he’s a travel influencer, works on his own terms, brands pay him to travel, and he earns more than his old IT job ever would. Most importantly, he looks alive again.

These stories are more common than people think.

In an age of AI slop, doing things you genuinely love with agency beats grinding mundane work that drains you and will anyway be automated by GPT.

Sometimes it really is just one decision and some guts.

You know , my resume doesn't get selected even for a 5k-10k role, that's where i stand in tech skills , where as guys in twitter way younger than me earning lakhs philosophize about how they are wasting their prime not living upto their potential.
This is not a complain or a ..

It's just the brutal reality of tech.
every day i keep getting rejected from 5k-10k roles.
It's just a self reflection that my tech skills isn't even sufficient to land a role in that category .
Really makes me wonder , can i even do it

Finished the functionality of one of my screens out of 3 of the mobile app I am working on

The rewrite hurts, but the benefits are obvious:

Sorting becomes easy
Overlap checks are simple comparisons

Constraints are simple math

Schema decisions compound really fast.
If a lot of calculative operations are needed in data it is definitely better to store as number.

I disappeared for a few days because I’m rewriting my entire project from scratch.
Here’s the expensive mistake I made so you don’t repeat it.

I have previously made projects but never needed to deal with time type in my db schema

I tried patching it with conditions and workarounds, but at some point the intricacies are more complicated than a rewrite.
So I’m rewriting the project by changing the schema and switching time to INTEGER (minutes since midnight).

January 2nd learning update
Completed all the CRUD functionalities in sqlite in my app . User can manipulate tasks now . Also the stage is set for future features.

clear separation of concern between
-DB handling layer
-component state handlers
-components
benefit?
there will be no fragmented division of state and the parent component can own the state completely and the parent component can just pass the component handlers to its child.

January 1st Learning Update
I am Learning React Native through building a day mapper productivity tool and while integrating SQLite and managing DB update along with UI update , I learnt the standard way of doing that -
