A brave Bengali BSF Jawan from Malda, serving in the 170 Battalion posted in Ukhrul district of Manipur, was martyred in militant firing. He has left behind his wife and children. Those who lecture Bengal about “PORIBORTON” should first turn their gaze towards Manipur.

The Prime Minister and his Home Minister have all the time in the world to campaign in Bengal, but not a single minute to visit Manipur and bring a lasting solution to the ethnic violence that has been raging for three long years. Nearly 300 people have been killed. Tens of thousands have been displaced and injured.

Before you scream “PALTANO DORKAR” in Bengal, Mr. Modi and Mr. Shah do something meaningful for the hapless people of your “ASHTALAKSHMI” state.

Bengal is the land of harmony, where unity across all faiths has always been our guiding light. Over the past decade and a half, under our Maa-Mati-Manush Sarkar, families across the state have found greater stability, well-being and prosperity. Free food, quality education and accessible healthcare have reached every corner, strengthening the bonds of trust between the people and their Government.

The massive turnout at today’s public meetings in Maynaguri, Dabgram–Phulbari and Matigara–Naxalbari is a resounding message from the people. The zamindars sitting in Delhi continue to spread lies and misinformation to malign Bengal’s progress. I strongly condemn these baseless campaigns of distortion and division.

The people of Bengal will not tolerate such malicious attempts to break our unity. They will respond through the power of democracy, with their votes. I am confident that the people will bless our candidates with an overwhelming mandate and decisively reject every conspiracy hatched by the Bangla-Birodhi forces. Joy Bangla! The Election Commission has now carried out the transfers that the @BJP4India had been loudly demanding. For us, this only deepens an uncomfortable question, are constitutional institutions being allowed to function independently, or are they increasingly being nudged to serve BJP’s political script?

The BJP may attempt to compensate for its lack of public support through institutional manoeuvring, but Bengal’s political consciousness cannot be managed through administrative reshuffles.
