For more than 20 hours, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has directed a sustained and indiscriminate military assault with the apparent objective of killing me, former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, dozens of respected traditional elders, and other political leaders in Mogadishu.

Heavy weaponry more commonly associated with conventional battlefield operations than densely populated urban areas, including anti-tank weapons, drones, and other military assets, has been deployed against us.

Civilian infrastructure has not been spared. Electricity supplies serving thousands of innocent civilians have been deliberately disrupted, further endangering lives and livelihoods. This conduct constitutes a war crime under international law.

These are weapons entrusted to the Somali state to fight Al-Shabaab, now turned against Somalia’s own leaders and citizens in an unprecedented campaign of political repression and targeted killing.

We will defend ourselves, our communities, and our constitutional rights.

I call upon all military, police, and security commanders to uphold their constitutional oath and refuse unlawful orders. Your duty is to the Constitution and the Somali people, not to the political interests of any individual.

Every unlawful order given and carried out will be documented. All those who commit criminal acts and war crimes will be held personally accountable.

I urge Somalia’s international partners to act immediately.

Puntland Forces have successfully established a critical supply route by creating a several-kilometer-long access road between Urar and Miraale. This connection links two crucial locations for ground movements, and with its completion, Miraale Valley is now completely secured.
This clandestine task took approximately one month and was kept secret due to operational security (OPSEC). During this period, the overall mission was adjusted to shaping operations. The gallant troops involved in this very effective stage of Operation 'Hilaac' (Lightning) counter-terrorism offensive deserve congratulations. Overtly, the troops were making logistical movements with camels and donkeys while covertly working on the vehicle access route. This achievement effectively accomplishes one of the main objectives of phase III.
We now await the anticipated announcement regarding the completion of the current phase and the prospective timeline for the commencement of Operation 'Onkod' (Thunder). This mission will focus on the Cal-Madow mountain range, targeting the al-Qaeda affiliate, al-Shabaab.

THE 3rd REPUBLIC IS NO MORE

The fundamental tenets of the 3rd Republic have been unilaterally upended by a rogue President.

The PC is no more. As are the Federal system and power sharing principles. The custodians of Executive Power have become slave administrators beholden to a brute Master without mercy and without shame. The Council of Ministers has become the Council of Minions. The Office of the Prime Minister is a balloon. The real one is run from the Bunker. The Parliament legislates inversion and deception. The Speaker sold his soul and the gavel to the Bagman.

The only President elected twice has dismantled the fragile constitutional order. He murdered the 3rd Republic and put the remains in the incineration. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is now all things and everything. Only the first 7 months of his second term has he governed with a modicum of rule-based norms. A shadowy cabal has been in power in the following two and half years.

Even by the horrendous standards of Somalia’s politics, the broad assault on the Constitution, the Republic, and the strategic interests and assets of the nation has been unbounded and without precedent. This amounts to the starkest form of impunity.

The President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the Lower House must be held accountable first. Accountability must be item number 1 of any discussion. Anything short of this makes all opposition forces and other relevant political actors complicit in a criminal conspiracy to mislead or defraud Somalia.
