@viva_thevillage Certainly not everyone was in a position to or wanted to take care of their relatives, but that was the thinking anyways. Not really any other eat to stay alive in those days if you couldn't work. Subsistence farming is a bitch.
@viva_thevillage These are like economics papers, but yeah people didn't just like routinely leave their parents to die when they got older lol. You're referencing is the French manor of dividing up land among the kids. That did happen, but often poor people didn't actually own the land.
