Despite losing convective symmetry on his N quadrant, Violent Typhoon #Krathon’s gleaming eye is clearer and drier than ever right now. To see such a wolfish whirlpool spinning so close to the massive cities of western #Taiwan is one of the more unnerving images of the already-highly impactful 2024 Pacific Typhoon season. It’s incredibly fortunate that Krathon isn’t curving towards the north more quickly, and that his current sluggish pace should allow him time to atrophy in strength (as is currently forecast) before striking #Taiwan. Nevertheless, what remains unchanged is that this Super Typhoon is likely going to be a dangerous storm for the island. Approximately ~40 hours are left until an 85 mph (137 kph) landfall NNW of Kaohsiung City, per the JTWC.

Despite being such a huge earthquake in Taiwan, the damage looks much less compared to Japan and Turkiye. Most of the buildings were earthquake proof, minimizing damage and loss of life.
