Imagine their audacity, their mediocrity and their sheer insensitivity towards the 26 students who have died by suicide in the past few months.

The day a regime's defining trait becomes silencing its people with brute force, its countdown begins.

The events that unfolded in Delhi are known to the entire country. But far from the national spotlight, Adivasis in Madhya Pradesh have been sitting on a jal satyagraha and hunger strike because their land is being snatched for the Ken–Betwa project.

Their only demand was for the government to ensure a dignified livelihood for them after taking away their land.

But instead of livelihood and rehabilitation, what came was police force and brutality.

The truth is that when a government responds to every legitimate grievance with repression, it does not display strength. It reveals fear and its growing disconnect from the people.

Yesterday, the third-year Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) examination paper was leaked in Gujarat.

The endlessly marketed "Gujarat Model" was, in reality, a model of paper leaks, corruption, and Goonda Raj.

Today, that very model has been exported across the country.

The Modi government has launched an open war against the youth of this country.

First, pellet guns were fired at them. Now, AK-47s.

And the promise of no witch-hunt against protesters has also proved to be no more than a jumla.

This is an unreliable government.

This is an intolerable regime.

Accountability must be fixed at the highest level for who ordered the issuance and use of lethal weapons against unarmed protesters that day.

But another depressing thing that the IG, RAF said was that,

“personnel transferring from the special operations zone such as Jammu & Kashmir, or other operational areas, possess a different work environment and operational perspective, but sectors such as Delhi, Bihar, Assam, and Maharashtra require a distinct and balanced approach to crowd control and public order management.”

Now the questions for IG, RAF are:

1. Are the people of Jammu & Kashmir not entitled to the same "distinct and balanced approach" to policing that exercises restraint, proportionality and sensitivity, as is expected in Delhi and elsewhere in India?

2. ⁠If not, why? Are there explicit directions from the Minister of Cooperation?

3. The Constitution does not recognise first-class and second-class citizens. So, the standards of policing cannot change with the geography. Then, why such discriminatory language, perspective and approach by the RAF Inspector General?

The brutal violence unleashed on students on 20th July demands accountability at the highest level.

The questions must be asked of the Home Minister, because that is where the chain of command ends - and also where the answers lie.

One minister losing his job does not guarantee jobs for millions of young job seekers across India.

Unemployment among Indian youth - those in the 15-29 age bracket - rose from 13.8% in April 2025 to 16.2% in June.

Modi must either solve the jobs crisis - or make room for those who can.

With Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, two of our demands remain unmet:

1. Accountability must be fixed at the highest level for the brutality unleashed against our youth on 20 July.

The symbol is gone. The system remains. And we will continue our struggle to change the system.

The illusion of "fast-track courts" meets reality.

For the first time in 12 years as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi posted a post-midnight video - again reading from a teleprompter - to assure India's youth that his government was serious about paper leaks. He promised fast-track courts for the culprits.

But just hours before he posted that video, the CBI had already given a clean chit to the "kingpin" of the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak.

This is yet another entry in the long list of paper leak cases that have ended with zero convictions.

So what exactly is happening? Is the government arresting the wrong people while protecting the real masterminds? Or are investigations and prosecutions being deliberately weakened – with flimsy charges, delayed filings and convenient loopholes – so that those responsible can walk free and orchestrate the next paper leak?

Modi ji, we don’t believe your fast-track courts promise. Sign the termination letter for Dharmendra Pradhan instead.

"Hope" is the thing with feathers.

What unfolded in the National Capital was not merely police excess. It was the banality of evil. Men in uniform: ordinary men, devoid of reflection, carrying out acts of staggering cruelty under the guise of obeying orders.

But there are young people such as these who are willing to risk the comfort of a "government job" or the security of a "stable life" because they know that blind obedience is not always virtue. They are the beacons of light India desperately needs.

We can hope that when history places ordinary people at moral crossroads, they choose to think before they choose to obey, because thinking is often the last barrier between authority and authoritarianism.

New Education Secretary Naresh Pal Gangwar's wife, mother and son collectively received over ₹1.16 crore in National Horticulture Board subsidies while he served as Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries.

That’s how deep-rooted corruption is in this government.
