On Thursday, Salem defeated cross-town rival Salem Academy 11-5. Annie Thornett struck out a season-high 15 batters, adding an RBI double. Faith Sanchez-Schroeder had 2 hits, 3 runs and an RBI, while Liv Loux had 2 hits & 3 runs for Salem (now 5-3).

On Wed, Salem defeated Saugus 15-3 w/ 19 hits & 2 HRs. Skylar Sverker & Julia Gauthier both homered; Jayla Tamilio & Kianny Mirabel-Nunez each had 3 hits & 3 RBI; Liv Loux added 3 hits; and Annie Thornett had 2 doubles, striking out 8.

The 2024 season opened with a bang on Monday!

Salem 28, Winthrop 1

Liv Loux drove home 7 runs on 4 hits. Annie Thornett got the win with 10 strikeouts, adding 3 RBI and 5 runs scored. Faith Sanchez-Schroeder had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Every Salem starter reached base and scored.

Junior 1B Skylar Sverker, sidelined late by appendicitis, batted .441 (11th) w/ 11 RBIs (T-30th).

Freshman P Annie Thornett had a 2.88 ERA (6th) & 144 K’s (5th), bringing her career strikeout total to 230.

Our team was YOUNG, featuring 8th graders at C (Julia Gauthier) and RF (Ashleigh Grimes), freshmen at P (Annie Thornett) and SS (Liv Loux), and junior captains (Skylar Sverker, Jayla Tamilio, Heather Bernard) on a team with no seniors.

8th grade C Julia Gauthier doubled and OFs Barbara Rowley, Emma McMahon & Ashleigh Grimes made terrific catches. Freshman Annie Thornett (CG, 8 Ks, 3 ER) gave the state championship contender fits w/ her changeup.

Witches win 10-6 at Malden!

Faith Sanchez-Schroeder had a triple & inside-the-park home run to rally the Witches from 5 runs down. Freshman Emma McMahon scored 3 times and got her first varsity hit, Heather Bernard scored 3, and Liv Loux (3 RBI) & Annie Thornett had 3 hits each.

8th-grader Ashley Grimes keyed a late game rally with a double for her first varsity hit. Liv Loux doubled & RBI'd while Barbara Rowley & Heather Bernard also doubled. Annie Thornett got the W with 7 K's against 1 earned run.

Tough 6-1 loss to Saugus yesterday, but there were a few bright spots:

Liv Loux had a pair of hits for the Witches while Skylar Sverker doubled and scored the lone run on an RBI single by Annie Thornett. Julia Gauthier added a double for Salem.
