🇯🇵 Japan is facing the kind of violent crime story that feels shocking because it happened in one of the safest countries on Earth, in broad daylight.
A 20-year-old woman was stabbed in the chest after leaving a bathroom in Osaka’s Abechika underground mall, near Tennoji Station, and had her bag stolen.
Police are treating it as robbery and attempted murder, while reports say two men of “foreign appearance” fled the scene.
Japan still has one of the lowest homicide rates in the world, around 0.2 to 0.3 per 100,000 people, which is almost unthinkable compared to most countries.
As Japan’s foreign population doubled past 4 million, crimes involving foreigners have surged sharply. Even with one of the world’s lowest crime rates, theft, fraud, and violent incidents are rising in line with mass immigration.
