“Ousmane, everyone knows your dream is to win the World Cup with France and stand more chance of winning the ballon d’or. But if, for whatever reason, France doesn’t lift the trophy in 2026, which country would you personally like to see become world champions?”

“First of all, I sincerely hope that never happens because representing France is one of the greatest honors of my career. Winning another World Cup with my country is something every French player dreams about.

But if France is eliminated and we can’t win it, then I would probably support Portugal 🇵🇹.”

“Portugal? That’s an interesting choice. Why them?”

🗣️ Ousmane Dembélé:

“Because they’ve built a fantastic national team. They have quality everywhere on the pitch from the goalkeeper to the attack. They have experienced players who know what it takes to win, exciting young talents coming through, and a squad that’s capable of competing with anyone.

For years they’ve been among the strongest teams in world football, and every major tournament they prove they belong with the very best. They’re always difficult to play against because they combine talent, discipline and character.”

“Would it be fair to say Cristiano Ronaldo is a big reason behind that answer?”

🗣️ Ousmane Dembélé:

“Of course. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen. Whether you’re a fan of him or not, you have to respect everything he’s has achieved throughout his career.

His mentality, professionalism, discipline and obsession with improving every single day have inspired millions of footballers around the world, including players like Messi. He’s shown that talent alone isn’t enough you need consistency, sacrifice and an incredible work ethic.

He’s won almost every major trophy available at club level and with Portugal, broken countless records, and continued performing at the highest level for so many years. The only major trophy missing from his career is the FIFA World Cup.

I genuinely think football would witness something special if he could complete his journey by lifting that trophy. It would be an unforgettable moment for him, for Portugal and for the history of the game.”

“So if France can’t win it, you’re backing Portugal?”

🗣️ Ousmane Dembélé:

“Without hesitation. France will always come first because that’s my country. But if our journey ends before the final, then I’d love to see Portugal 🇵🇹 become world champions and watch Cristiano Ronaldo finally lift the FIFA World Cup. I think it would be a beautiful ending to one of the greatest careers football has ever seen.” 🏆🇵🇹
