Performances on 7th & 24th June respectively #IAm8. It’s for children aged 3-11 & adults of any age
Thanks also to @BarryMemo for inviting 100 children to our first show. And for @TorchTheatre and Tim - who leads the youth theatre, for being so supporting & so giving... And also to @aberystwytharts - for bringing in so many children:) @Arts_Wales_ thankyou always too.
There was a moment at the end of one workshop, when I asked, 'who here gets to do dance or study music?', and four children out of 50 put their hands up. It's not a given that all children have access to culture and to the arts. I find this incredibly sad....
Which is why dance companies offering workshops can be such a beautiful thing... Josie Sinnadurai Alex Love, Divija Melally, Marine, Tournet,@jpowellmain , Reece Denham were all wonderful leading the workshops for #IAm8
One of their teachers sat next to me during one workshop or #IAm8 fand I noticed he was crying. (It wasn't long after Covid). He said, 'I've just never seen them look so happy.'
Sometimes I think about the people who decide educative policy in relation children and dance. The thing is... why wouldn't you want something that gives them such joy and that they love so much?
Looking at pics of the workshops we did with primary school children. Here's composer
@frankmoonmusic leading a sound workshop with
some of the students. Frank has made such a gorgeous score for #IAm8’, though he was just as full of magic in the workshops too.

Lovely photos from our performances @BarryMemo from our costume maker Angharad Gamble. Just look at Grant Barden's lighting! It's like the dancers are bathed in sherbet.
@TorchTheatre & @aberystwytharts next month 😊
Lovely Marine is injured, we all hope she gets well very soon. This means that we have a new team member for #IAm8. Rose Nobel Booth will be joining us for the performance at @BarryMemo tomorrow. Rose is originally from Australia, & completed her training at @rambertschool .
Here is Josie, completely brilliant person. She is the producer of #IAm8 & she's in it! She has 3 premiere's in the next 2 months as a dancer. 1 in contemporary, 1 percussion and another she has choreographed herself which is flamenco. Here she is 8 years ago when we first met.
