A chaotic scene unfolded at Morgan Wallen’s concert this weekend at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. A man, apparently caught up in the “Still the Problem” energy, allegedly treated the crowded area as his personal restroom—urinating directly on a nearby family that included young children.
Shocked concertgoers watched as the family confronted him, sparking a confrontation that eventually drew security into the fray. According to Troy Grevelding, one of the victims who later posted about the incident, police responded but ultimately released the man without charges. Grevelding, his wife, brother, and their 8-year-old niece were all reportedly urinated on during the show.

For a fleeting moment, could one of the sleepers have seen him, they would have thought that they beheld an old weary hobbit, shrunken by the years that had carried him far beyond his time, beyond friends and kin, and the fields and streams of youth, an old starved pitiable thing.”

At that moment, Gollum had a genuine chance to free himself from the Ring's corruption and reconnect with Frodo, allowing Sméagol, the good part of himself, to return. But that chance was lost.

The Ring had corrupted every part of his being, his mind, his morality, and even his physical form. Its hold over him was so complete that he could no longer abandon it of his own free will. Yet the true turning point came on the Stairs of Cirith Ungol.

While Sam slept and Frodo rested peacefully with his head upon Sam's lap, Gollum returned. Seeing them together in such peace and affection, the sly gleam in his eyes faded. For a brief moment, he looked like nothing more than an old, weary Hobbit. Sméagol awakened within him. Filled with genuine repentance and compassion, he slowly reached out and gently touched Frodo's knee. In that moment, he truly pitied Frodo, saw him once again as his "dear master," and was perhaps on the verge of abandoning his betrayal, his plan to lead them into Shelob's lair.

At that exact moment, Sam suddenly awoke. Seeing Gollum touching Frodo, and remembering that Gollum had previously tried to strangle Frodo in his sleep, Sam instinctively reacted to protect his master. He harshly rebuked Gollum, accusing him of being a sneaking traitor once again.

Tolkien makes it clear that this was Sam's great mistake. He stated that had Sam not awakened and spoken so harshly to Gollum at that moment, Gollum would have turned completely back to the good. Furthermore, Tolkien suggested that when they finally reached Mount Doom, and Frodo claimed the Ring instead of destroying it, Gollum would most likely still have bitten the Ring from Frodo's finger. However, in this version of events, he would have willingly cast himself into the Fire with the Ring in order to save Frodo.

In short, although the Ring's corrupting influence is undeniable, Tolkien believed that the decisive moment in Gollum's fall, the instant he lost his final chance at redemption and surrendered himself completely to evi, was triggered by Sam's harsh rebuke on the Stairs of Cirith Ungol. For Tolkien, this was one of the greatest tragedies in all of Middle-earth.
