Tradition has it that the Saltire, Scotland's National flag, originated in a battle fought in East Lothian, near the village of Athelstaneford. Today the flag flies all year round from the Saltire Memorial. Help restore this nationally important site visit https://t.co/UrCyY753uL

Yesterday's St Andrews Day saw the sun really shine for what was also the 60th anniversary of the monument to the Saltire in its legendary birthplace of Athelstaneford. Hopefully a good omen for the @SaltireScotland's appeal to support a replacement.
St Andrew's Day saw the 60th anniversary of the monument to the Saltire at its legendary birthplace of Athelstaneford. Yesterday's service was attended by the First Minister and Scottish Secretary, with March Pursuivant Extraordinary and Kintyre Pursuivant Extraordinary.

A genuinely lovely way to spend St.Andrew’s Day 🏴 in home territory. Thank you @SaltireScotland for the invitation and @JohnSwinney for taking the time to speak with my eldest boy. Plenty to talk about at school tomorrow in East Lothian. Super to see all local kids involved. 🏴
The Saltire flutters gently above the St Andrew’s Day service at Athelstaneford. Rev Douglas Hamilton made the parallel that Andrew brought people together with Jesus and the Saltire brings us all together in an inclusive Scotland. A beautiful message for our National Day. 🏴
Today I attended the St Andrew’s Day service in Athelstaneford, marking 60 years of the Saltire Memorial. A meaningful celebration of St Andrew, patron saint for both Romania 🇷🇴 and Scotland 🏴. Warm wishes to all named Andrei or Andreea on their special day!
Delighted to be at Athelstaneford here in East Lothian this afternoon on St. Andrew’s Day to commemorate the birthplace of Scotland’s saltire - a flag that belongs to all of us as Scots.
Happy Saint Andrew's Day from the birthplace of the Saltire. Today we launch an appeal for a new monument to Scotland's National Flag with @ScotGovFM and @D_G_Alexander https://t.co/C4TV9xyfFj
