Don't get me wrong. We need to heavily promote the many "non-traditional" GC roles and responsibilities (hate that term but y'all know what I'm talking about when I say it), but that's a matter of widening the scope rather than changing the lens.

Similar thoughts here. In a field that is centered on compassion, non-directiveness, and belonging, it's hard to think of a better descriptor.

If the term "counselor" is a deterrent to prospective GCs then the onus is on the individual imo, regardless of how they identify.

I was not aware of the demographic homogeneity of the field until I was interviewing for grad school and I was surrounded by people not like me. This did not deter me from pursuing my dream career. #GeneChat #NSGC23

The #NSGC2022 stress/burnout session was great, but the discussion reinforced what many already suspect in this field: We easily find our meaning/value in our work. There's a deeper problem at work here. 1/x

I think it's time for a come-to-Jesus moment for a lot of us. Speaking for myself, I only feel like a "real" person when I remember my humanity is rooted inherently. As a Christ-follower, it's a term we often use called "imago dei" or "having the image or likeness of God." 4/x
