There’s something wrong with our…PE/3-D after-market… The Tamiya 1/700 USS Iowa kit was a gift; the a-m parts weren’t… The Flyhawk PE set seemed like an unauthorized set (no wooden deck in this Gold Medal Edition; bad instructions); the TRIUMPH MODEL Bofors look out-of-scale🤔
‘Likes’ and views are nice. Feedback though, about the 1/350 HMS EXTER supplemental set, would be far better. This is to complement existing PE ‘super detail’ sets which are currently inaccurate/ incomplete. A great starting point: what price would people be prepared with paying?
An upgrade for the upgrade. The latest PE supplemental set for HMS EXETER. The PE has been thinned; frets “A” and “C” have more parts. Instructions are now 2 pages to cope with the extra details. Any constructive comments are welcome as are any pre-orders: [email protected]👍
For more details and a closer look at this PE test set, simply scan the QR code below. Feel free to provide helpful comments and suggestions about this initial set: fixes/ adjustments/ additions/ next steps. NB: this is for HMS Exeter in 1939. Already developing the next version.
This is why the 1/350 HMS Exeter build has been slow… an initial test PE upgrade set designed to fix the plastic kit errors, provide more parts and fix some inaccuracies in all other HMS Exeter PE sets, no matter whichever other manufacturer you choose. Helpful feedback please😎
Opening a can of worms. Making the Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Exeter 1939 kit more accurate, the more the mistakes become apparent: fore deck canvas supports and bollards, bridge deck port-side port holes/door/stairwell locations, the hull, rear davit supports, and plenty more besides…
@Ganed_Ddraig An update for you. Via a friend, VeryFire replied. After verifying the original purchase, they replaced the 6 affected PE frets for FREE (exc. US$4 shipping), arriving in TWO DAYS. The ‘site’ was to blame; selling prototype sets. VeryFire acted in complete good faith throughout!
A bit to fret about… Finally sorted the portholes; now the Exeter’s bridge. However, these 2 matters have now been encountered: not enough B32 parts (the fret diagram indicates otherwise) and there’re NO E30, E31 parts: the “E” PE fret parts only go up to E27… What else awaits?
@Ganed_Ddraig Sadly for something this serious, it is not really the site’s fault or responsibility: they are acting in good faith. It is very much VeryFire’s issue to resolve. In addition, this is also the whole point of all of these posts: what building a kit is really like! Warts and all!😎
So much for doing things by eye. Perhaps a slightly less old-school method: photocopy enlargement…just filled in all that hand-drilling work. More drying time and then it’s time to discover if anything better comes of this approach. The fore starboard half and top row seem fine.
