Un sitio ateo pregunta por qué Dios no sana a los amputados. La respuesta tiene nombre: Te presento a Miguel Juan Pellicer, un joven de Calanda, España, devoto de la Virgen del Pilar.

En 1637, con 20 años, cayó de un carro que le pasó por encima y le rompió la pierna derecha. Llegó a Zaragoza con la pierna negra de gangrena y se la amputaron debajo de la rodilla, sin anestesia.

Un testigo escribió: «En su tormento, el joven invocaba a la Virgen del Pilar, sin cesar y con gran fervor».

La pierna fue enterrada en el cementerio del hospital y hay documentados asentados en el registro de ese suceso.

Durante dos años pidió limosna en el santuario del Pilar. Cada noche se untaba el muñón de la pierna mocha con aceite del santuario y pedía la intercesión de la Virgen.

La noche del 29 de marzo de 1640, cambió todo. Mientras él dormía en suelo de su sala, su madre vio dos pies saliendo de las cobijas. Llamó a su esposo, quien levantó la manta: ¡era su hijo con las dos piernas enteras!

El arzobispo investigó: desenterraron la caja de la pierna y estaba vacía. Era su misma pierna la que ahora tenía, y tenía la misma cicatriz de una mordedura de perro de cuando él era pequeño.

Declararon dos docenas de testigos, entre ellos médicos, enfermeros, vecinos, etc. Un año después, la sentencia: el milagro era auténtico.

In Catholic thought, the memory is one of the faculties of the soul, alongside the intellect and the will. To purify the memory is to surrender painful recollections, regrets, intrusive thoughts, and unhealthy attachments to Christ, asking Him to free us from their power.

At the beginning of your Rosary, you can simply pray:
“Lord, I offer this Rosary for the purification of my memory.
Take every painful recollection, every regret, and every unholy image, and wash them in Your grace.”
You can also bring this intention into each mystery:
• Agony in the Garden: memories of anxiety and fear
• Scourging at the Pillar: memories of suffering and shame
• Crowning with Thorns: impure or troubling thoughts
• Resurrection: renewal, hope, and new life
Or add a simple clause to the Hail Mary:“…and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus, who purifies my memory.”
