Yesterday, the people of Lkeek Sapuki, Samburu West, gathered in sorrow to bury one person who lost his life in a banditry attack, while another victim remained in hospital fighting for his life. The pain had barely settled and another attack had left families grieving after thousands of livestock were driven away and one person seriously injured.
Two days ago, another attack happened in Marti, Samburu North, where lives were lost, people were injured and livestock were taken. These repeated in Samburu north & west have left families to live in fear, mourn loved ones and struggle to rebuild their lives every week.
Cattle can be recovered but a human life can never be replaced. It is painful that communities in Samburu continue to suffer while waiting for lasting solutions. The government has a responsibility to protect lives, stand with citizens and act decisively when people are hurting.
We call upon leaders and security agencies to treat insecurity in Samburu with the urgency it deserves. Our people need action, protection and peace NOT silence.
