Discovery learning is the slowest, clumsiest, most error-prone way for novices to learn anything. It privileges children who have advantaged home circumstances, tutors, supportive homes, and discriminates against children for whom school is their main or possibly only chance to learn how to read and write.
If your child asks you how they change species, you donβt just stop- you start teaching them science and biology! Best of all, because they can start to read about it, and because theyβre interested, it will aid their motivation to do so.
@OCR_PhysEd Please can you explain the question on todays Paper 1 on Tidal Volume Graphs? The spec clearly states pupils only need to know the definition. Data interpretation has always just been numbers given in a table. /1
@LiamDeeryPE@OCR_PhysEd Yep, I'm aware of that point. The data is usually presented in a table for TV like the picture below. Today's question was like the 2nd picture and asked them to give the actual Tidal Volume value. Then they got a blank graph and had to draw what it would look like in exercise!
@OCR_PhysEd OCR GCSE PE @OCR_PhysEd The AQA clearly talks about Spirometry tracing and the need to interpret this in their specification. This is not a requirement listed on the OCR specification
@OCR_PhysEd I have looked at your endorsed text books, specification, all past papers, revision guides and both 1.1.d & 1.1.e topic exploration packs and none of these have ever shown or used respiratory volume graphs.
@PepsMccrea Very interesting! I've noticed the trend for a long time that our better behaved and higher achieving year groups have a higher volume of female pupils compared to male!
Study on impact of female classmates:
β More girls = higher STEM scores, esp for female students
β Less disruptive behaviour in boys & improved engagement in girls
β Largest benefits in low-income, low-quality schools
tldr; girls rock π€
(also raises some tough questions)
Thank you thank you thank you π To all the guests, crew, and most importantly you at home who have made the last 20 series so incredible to be part of. We are so grateful to everyone who tuned in and we couldnβt have done it without you πππ₯°
@itvtakeaway Currently waiting in the queue outside! My Dad got me this autograph from you guys on 23/5/2002 (I was 9)! You were signing contracts at Heals Cafe! SNT and I'm a Celeb started later that year! Wouldn't it be amazing if it's at the final series of SNT! @antanddec
Thank you to everyone who came to listen to me speak at #rED23
I throughly enjoyed talking to you all about the development of a tutor time curriculum and effective revision strategies π§ πππ»π

Nice to see GCSE PE entries back up a bit from last year to 73,434 but quite a drop in top marks being awarded.
Thanks as always to https://t.co/mEvJP4TtLv for the analysis.
How did your Ss get on compared to national averages? @The_EverLearner @ukPEchat @OCR_PhysEd@PEScholar
Well, I did it! 96 Yr7's had the time of their lives at PGL last week! So many challenges thrown my way, but would do it all again in a heartbeat seeing the impact it had on the kids' confidence, resilience, and happiness! School is so much more than just sitting in a classroom!
