A happy fourth birthday to the fifth incarnation of Johnson’s Willow, planted on 2 November 2021 (left). As a comparison with the image on the right (taken today) will show, the tree has made substantial growth since then – and, thanks to the weather, is still largely in leaf.
Dr Tristram Hunt, Director of the V&A, will speak at this year’s Johnson Society Supper in Lichfield.
He will be inaugurated as President during the event and deliver the after-dinner address.

One of my favourite biographies - the life and times of the charming and clubbable friend of Dr Johnson, the composer and man of letters Charles Burney (father of novelist and diarist Fanny Burney), by Percy Scholes. Two volumes, illustrated, 1948. .@SamJohnsonSoc have you read these delightful books?
