'Like a bird in a cage'
In Taiwan, 90,000 migrants have gone off the grid, many fleeing exploitative jobs for life in the shadows https://t.co/aTU0l15Fj1
@slawa_dev They went with option B, treating as if my daughter didn't exist. My son was registered as first-born. They'll give 5000 subsidy. Honestly, I didn't even know about the subsidy, and I'd gladly give it up if they would just register my daughter. But they insist on renunciation.
1/2 I am trying to register my newborn son at household office. & It has became a big headache for them because they don’t know whether to register him as first born or not. Apparently this affects child subsidy. Because 1st child is 5000/month, but 2nd child is 6000/month.
@QaziMazhar_ My daughter cannot apply for a plum blossom. I already have citizenship. But even if I had gotten citizenship via a plum blossom card, my daughter would still be required to renounce, which she cannot. This root of the problem is Taiwan’s law requiring children to renounce.
Our son was born today & we’re overjoyed. Yet it’s also a reminder of how I failed our daughter. I can’t help but feel angry at Taiwan’s laws where my son is a citizen at birth, but my daughter is still denied citizenship due to the renunciation law. It’s wrong & hurts our family
First time ever going to a Walmart. Never seen so much “stuff” or so much variety of it. Felt a little embarrassed taking pictures there. They don’t know. But I’ve only seen a Walmart on TV. 😅
@RachelH28867500 I am not sure to be honest. But the immigration line was pretty fast. They didn’t spend more than few minutes on anyone. I am only on a visit visa so they just asked me how many days I will be in US and where I will be staying and that’s it. It was pretty easy.
Flying to US today. Last time was 5 or 6 years ago. I usually get extra scrutiny at check-in. First time flying as a Taiwanese citizen. So far, haven’t been allowed to check-in online. Last one now at manual check-in, & they took my passport and disappeared somewhere.🤞
First-time ever. Took me less than a minute at the SFO immigration counter. Surprisingly simple. Just asked me how many days I’ll be there and the purpose of the visit & they let me go right after I answered. No extra scrutiny. 😅
I guess some things don’t change just because you change your nationality. I don’t blame them, but it sucks still. It’s a good thing I’ve built a lot of patience over the last 20 years traveling as a Pakistani.
@KaohsiungCity@TaipeiCity Maybe you can consider signing up for this. It's free! And will help to reduce pollution from vehicles constantly having to stop and go at Taiwan's many short-distance intersections.
