Retired Executive Director of @CO_Municipal. Ski fanatic. Passionate about all things Colorado and the good folks who live here. #LocalGovernmentMatters
Well stated as always. A classic shift and shaft. These gyrations and hocus pocus would make Houdini blush. A partnership reset under the Gold Dome can’t come soon enough IMO
After 4 years of vilifying municipalities and local participatory democracy, look who is actually making the affordable housing crisis worse - with voter-approved money! 👀👎🏻💸 #NoMoneyNoMandates#PartnershipNotPreemption https://t.co/svYOCsvg8H via @coloradosun
Eastern Plains wind farms, likely around Burlington and Cheyenne Wells. My 7th year retired, missing those small town elected officials out on the Plains. If you’re looking for common sense, good governance spend time with these folks. A lot more there than under the Gold Dome.
👍 holiday lunch with pals Lakewood Mayor Emeritus and past CML President Steve Burkholder, City Clerk Extraordinaire and Colorado Senate Secretary Emeritus Karen Goldman, and last and certainly not least one of the single greatest CO state legislators EVER, Norma Anderson♥️ 🎉
In Colorado, #HomeRule still matters - and it's in the constitution. @CO_Municipal continues to seek #PartnershipNotPreemption and hopes the administration will cease heavy-handed, DC-style policy. And new for 2026, given the state's fiscal issues, #NoMoneyNoMandates.
Polis asks Buc-ee’s to halt expansion plans near ‘consequential conservation’ area in Colorado https://t.co/yfIeULJU5d Our two Senators have deep roots in city government and respect local decision making. Disappointing. Our Governor, not so much, if at all👎
The Governor’s authority appears questionable, and I would hope #coleg asks some hard questions about executive branch overreach and lack of rulemaking standards. Hardly a positive legacy👎
Gov. Polis’ executive order could block CO towns & cities from 34 grant programs without legislative approval. CML is reviewing, engaging leaders, and defending local governments’ access to funding.

Ken was truly amazing. We were colleagues for 27 years until his 2005 retirement. Caring, ethical, focused, and devoted to city and town leaders as well as his own wonderful family, especially Bernice. May his memory be a blessing♥️🙏
CML is mourning the loss of a great leader. Former CML executive director Ken Bueche passed away on Wed. CO municipalities better of thanks to Ken's commitment to home rule, local control, & partnership with the state. ❤️💪 https://t.co/LRfyEiQfSB
Appreciate this ongoing honor, two outstanding municipal leaders recognized this year. Town clerks are the backbone of small communities. @BuenaVistaCO Paula Barnett👏@CityWheatRidge Mayor Starker a friend for years. A quiet leader who listens and is listened to🎉👍#cml25

Congress overrules w impunity DC’s home rule authority and #coleg does the same to municipal home rule which is in the state constitution, both are wrong and and deserve more scrutiny like this @emamet research
Postdoctoral research associate @emamet demonstrates how Washington D.C. is “disenfranchised in multiple ways: voteless in the House, voiceless in the Senate, and without full local self-government” in a new Perspectives on Politics paper. https://t.co/qVa5EOromZ
@PrincetonSPIA@emamet Home rule takes on many nuances, and what the Congress consistently does to the District of Columbia is akin to what many state legislatures do in thumbing their nose at home rule, even when it is imbedded in a state’s constitution. #coleg is a prime and consistent example
Amid ongoing debates about Washington, D.C.'s autonomy, I have a new article out arguing that democratic equality for D.C. is only possible via statehood. @PoPpublicsphere
I hope #coleg respects good local governance this session as it is practiced among Arapahoe County’s local leaders, as well as throughout CO. So many former city/town leaders under the Gold Dome, please remember your roots.
It was my pleasure to be there to talk about all the ways local governments must continue to hang together and all the opportunities for #coleg and @GovofCO to choose #PartnershipNotPreemption.
