@Jneher2 I was actually surprised how much I liked doing reading groups online with small groups because there was no other classroom distractions! I didn’t have to manage the other 20 kids and could give the 4 my full attention!
There are frameworks for the post secondary environment and for the K-12 online environment. However, I feel there should be a third framework for the elementary environment. Learning online is very different for a high school compared to a first grader. #643Sp21#SPOResearch1
I like the table that provides a list of teacher practices from the study. It gives real example of things you could do in your classroom. #SPOResearch1#643Sp21
“One difference is the increased need for online educators to monitor, facilitate, and troubleshoot student technology” this was one of my biggest struggles with first graders teaching virtually #643Sp21#SPOResearch1
@innovative_inq That section sparked my interest too! Face to face you can have so much more flexible where online you have to have things created and ready and may not have that same flexibility.

@AmieByelich I have found showing my first graders pictures of me and my family and pets and sharing my life with them really helps build our connections. During virtual learning this would really help show your students you are real person behind the screen too.
@Kirksey_choir I would love to see that research as well. Especially for the younger students. There is such a fine line of too much technology with their developing brains. I would like to see how learning virtually effects them!
“Social presence has emerged as a key factor in student satisfaction and success in online learning environments.” Teachers need time and training to develop a social presence. #643Sp21#SPOL
“Four factors that construct social presence: affective connectedness, mutual attention and support, sense of community, and open communication.” #643Sp21#SPOL
So many definitions of social presence! I would define it as the degree which a person seem real, connected, and supported in a virtual learning environment #SPOL#643Sp21
