It’s just depressing.

Again, nursing is let down by policies that do nothing but push the can down the road.

Again the voice of nursing is left unheard.

Again nursing students are pushed away from university in England.

🧵Today, the Education Secretary confirmed that university tuition fees will rise from next year.

This increase is bad news for patient care and will mean fewer nurses on wards and in communities.

I absolutely love being a nurse, but why does it have to be so hard. I fight every day to save people’s lives, and I love it! But I don’t want to have to fight be fairly paid. I don’t want to have to fight to be fairly treated. And I don’t want to have to fight to be valued!

Every year, like clockwork we get the announcement that yet again nursing student numbers have dropped. A beleaguered workforce, constantly having to fight just to be fairly treated has meant that people just don’t think it’s worth it. Do you? @RCNStudents @theRCN

We need a return of the maintenance loan.
An abolition of tuition fees
A forgiveness of previous student debts.

Each country needs to look at the funding that is given to our future nurses.

Bursaries need to be liveable, and our courses value for money.

We all hold a responsibility, students, universities and politicians, to make this a reality.

I don’t hear any reference to the fact that Northern Ireland has the highest waiting list in the UK and no pay award. This will be the third time that nurses in N.I. have taken strike action over the past four years. It is immoral and indefensible that, despite the money being available from UK Government, nursing staff are being held hostage over a political situation they have no power to influence. #RCNStrike #FairPayForNursing

🚨Enough is enough. #FairPayForNursing as @RCN_NI announces strike action. Nursing staff are not prepared to tolerate pay inequality any longer.
The crisis within our health and social care system is now so desperate that continuing inaction by our elected politicians is not an acceptable position.
