So much cool time series data is locked in the figures of old econ papers (sometimes without accompanying data tables).
I had Claude build a tool where you upload a screenshot, calibrate the axes, point and click, and out pops a CSV. To think that people are still charging money for this sort of thing!
My interrupted time series design suggests that the Trump admin’s actions in Iran have lowered energy prices by $10 a barrel. Thank you @WhiteHouse 🇺🇸🫡
Causal inference is my passion btw
The math requirements on econ phd admissions have become insanely high. It used to be the case that you only needed to know how to take a first derivative. Now you need to know how to take a second or even third derivative!
Syntyvyyden hidas elpyminen jatkuu. Väestön ennakkotilaston mukaan toukokuussa syntyi 4130 lasta. Liukuva vuosisumma n. 47 tuhatta, mikä on (korona poissuljettuna) suurin arvo sitten vuoden 2019.
To the original point: Going all in on AI was great for the students who were empowered and self-motivated to learn and produce.
It was a complete disaster for the effort minimizers.
The effort minimizers are having a field day in college right now—there are *so* *many* *classes* where you can get an A by literally putting everything into ChatGPT and learning nothing.
They'll have to pay the piper. College isn't just signaling. It won't be an easy labor market for those who spent four years and learned nothing. 12/

Herbert does a good job making resources feel scarce. Many scenes where characters (especially the rich ones) sit around talking about how they will/won’t be able to pay for this or that. Makes the world and the stakes feel much more real than in other sci-fi and fantasy universes.
BREAKING: @valaratomics' Ward 250 reactor successfully achieved criticality in Emery County, Utah, becoming the first @ENERGY-authorized reactor built outside a national laboratory.
This achievement is a testament to the innovators, builders, and public servants working to strengthen America’s energy future. Utah is proud to be at the forefront of the next generation of nuclear technology.
