I’m hiring and after a couple weeks of emails and zoom calls, I invited a couple of my favorite candidates to coffee today.
After having way too much caffeine, happy to report that I found a great new team mate :)
Neither statement would decide it for me. Admitting to nepotism doesn’t make it a virtue, and claiming meritocracy doesn’t make it true. The bigger question is whether I’d want either as a long-term partner. I don’t choose investors based on how they describe themselves. The portfolio, founder references, and decision-making tell the real story. And no, I don’t think you can tell the difference from a distance, people are way too skilled at idealistic storytelling lol
