If this is true, it’s pretty depressing. Many journalists went out of their way to cover women’s football when nobody wanted to know. Many of us did it when there were less than 100 people in the crowd, and we had to fight tooth and nail to get column inches or space on radio and TV. Many journalist fought hard for the women’s game, to give it the credence it deserves. The very fact someone thinks it right to say a club doesn’t “need” journalists anymore, is ridiculous. Some media outlets may have argued they didn’t “need” Women’s football on their pages, in years gone by. That didn’t stop journalists doing their job and still trying. It’s not about “need” when it comes to comms here. If you want to be professional, act like a professional outfit. Working with journalists is a service which comes with the territory, and which most clubs all over the world agree to. Male and female. “Need” just smacks of a gross lack of professionalism.
